A belated Happy New Year from Cisco Live London 2013! This is our last year in London, and it was an excellent sendoff bringing the latest for medianet to our great partners and customers in the European market. With the greater adoption of medianet technologies, we saw the incorporation of medianet features within the general design sessions related to Jabber deployment, to Access Switching, WAN Network Designs and even a few Management sessions. (Some of the session links provide a video capture of the session as well as a download of the content)
Meanwhile, the event brought an introduction to Medianet Flow Metadata as well as Media Services Proxy , which allows the sharing of attributes of flows with the network. The network can then use these attributes for advanced classification, for example, to match the audio leg of a Jabber for Windows session. We had a demo station setup where we showed the quality of metadata-based classification of Jabber video compared to other forms of video that did not benefit from advanced classification. Of course, there were a number of other demo stations showing the network management utilization of medianet features for monitoring and reporting on network performance, namely Performance Monitor and Mediatrace .
In terms of medianet-specific sessions, we had three main sessions covering Video Conference troubleshooting tools , medianet functions and network management interfaces , and a comprehensive 4-hour medianet systems lab that provides the users with a running branch that has IP video surveillance, WebEx, Jabber, IP Telephony as well as IPTV all running on a common network. In multiple sessions it was good to see renewed interest in multicast with IPTV or Music on Hold as the driving application. In fact, there is a new IPSLA feature for the dynamic creation and testing of multicast trees .
Speaking of labs, London 2013 saw the addition of a new Medianet Flow Metadata lab in the WISP (Walk In Self Paced) area. This adds to the existing dozens of WISP labs, some of which cover different aspects of medianet technology. If you’re not familiar with WISP labs, be sure to check them out in Cisco Live Melbourne or Orlando. These labs are on the World of Solutions floor (the trade show part of Cisco Live)—for which you can generally get a free pass if you register early enough, and there are for you to play with technology at your own pace pretty much as long as you want. There are bunch of CCIE prep labs as part of WISP as well!
All in all, it was a lot of fun meeting our customers and partners. I even got to talk to a few network engineers that had deployed medianet features and were looking to exploit that knowledge even more. We’ve got a lot of new features and product support planned for 2013 so keep following the blog and stop by at the events and say hi!
