Physical security has March Madness. And you might get it too, if you manage Cisco UCS and run video surveillance applications. Or if you attended ISC West this week in Vegas, where virtualization was all the buzz.

Our hot news is the virtualization of video surveillance on Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS). This has potentially profound implications on two big operational costs: data center management and safety and security operations.

Cisco VSM on UCS: hyper-scalability and lower TCO

With Cisco VSM on UCS, you get significant performance and scalability boosts, more agility, and reduced facilities and management requirements. This means dramatic lowering of TCO so IT can more easily take on physical security as a service.

This news is part of Cisco’s move last fall to focus on large-scale deployments like urban and border security, healthcare and energy. VSM on UCS benefits these types of deployments with:

So now a large city surveillance deployment of thousands of cameras can run on a single UCS. Muy caliente, no?

For such deployments—and the many smaller ones where virtualization makes sense—Cisco offers VSM on UCS for both data center and branch.

More hot madness: Safety & Security Solution Blocks

This news is part of the new Cisco Physical Security Solution strategy announced last fall. The first phase was broadening the benefits of medianet. This phase introduces greater scale and virtualization, along with three types of pre-tested and integrated solution “blocks”: network, video surveillance platform, and application integration. These blocks streamline deployments times and facilitate managing video surveillance on the network.

These VSM on UCS solution blocks mean you can more easily take on video surveillance as an application on the network, with reduced risk, faster deployment and lower overall costs. There are more blocks coming—we are just getting started.

Where can you experience this hot stuff?
Many got to experience VSM on UCS at CiscoLive Melbourne last week and at ISC West this week in Vegas.
