Medianet integrates a smarter network with smarter endpoints to simplify the deployment and operation of various media and applications, and to enhance the quality of experience. You can find all you need to deploy medianet capabilities in the Medianet Knowledge Base, including a deployment guide which guides you step by step on how to deploy and use medianet capabilities.

But if you want to get your hands dirty and learn by doing we will have a fun lab (both for the student and proctors) in the next Cisco Live in San Diego. The lab is based on real physical equipment (routers, switches, MCUs, video surveillance cameras, etc.), video applications (Jabber for Windows, CP-9971 phones, Video Surveillance, WebEx and Digital Signage) and Network Management. You will  get a chance to see a real working video enabled branch that they control and get an introduction to the many medianet features like performance monitor, mediatrace, IPSLA Video Operations, Auto Smart Ports, QoS, and now Media Services Interface (MSI), Flow Metadata and Media Services Proxy (MSP)!

The lab will be proctored by star team of experts from the medianet team: Aamer Akhter, Vishwas Puttasubbappa and Michael Dybka.

LTREVT-2300 Enterprise Medianet: Video Applications and Network Design Lab

Monday, June 11, 8-12p

In enterprises, video is rapidly becoming the dominant consumer of network bandwidth as well as a major factor in network design. Video itself is changing: new compression codecs, new transport formats, standard definition to a variety of screen shapes and sizes. Enterprises increasingly use video to communicate, collaborate and reduce travel expenditures. In this session attendees will be immersed in a medianet campus and branch network. There will be hands on experience with various medianet technologies such as QoS, RSVP, NetFlow and PfR in conjunction with video applications such as Physical Security, Telepresence, Video Conferencing, Digital Signage and WebEx. There will be also be exposure to network and application management software that will be used to monitor and manage the network. We will work through various exercises involving, configuration, observation, inducing failures, troubleshooting and management. The attendees should have a general working knowledge of Cisco IOS, and familiarity with networking concepts such as basic QoS.

Lab 1: Acclimation and Monitoring
* Follow directions to log on to your routers, identify interfaces in your branch, etc.
* Observe exiting traffic patterns and enhanced application discovery and baselining
* Make measurements across various links

Lab 2: Application Acclimation
* Make Video Phone calls
* Observe live and recorded IP video surveillance
* Digital Signage Web and Enterprise TV
* Join group WebEx video call
* Observe traffic patterns in the network

Lab 3: Performance Monitoring
* Create basic performance monitor policy
* Monitor basic policy via CLI, monitor thresholds
* Create multi-class policy with thresholds and NetFlow export
* Monitor TCP and RTP performance via Cisco Prime Assurance

Lab 4: Mediatrace
* Run mediatrace system poll through network
* Run mediatrace performance monitor poll through network
* Configure and run periodic system poll through network
* Mediatrace of CTS session using Cisco Prime Collaboration Manager

Lab 5: IPSLA Video Operation
* Generate and monitor synthetic traffic from network
* Observe synthetic traffic with performance monitor

Lab 6: Medianet Metadata and Media Services Proxy
* Generating Metadata with WebEx Client
* Generating Metadata with the Media Services Proxy
* Metadata Reporting
* Policies with Metadata

Lab 7: Auto Smart Ports
* Construct Auto Smart Ports template
* Bring up end device on switch port
* Observe application of template
* Remove device, and observe roll-back of template

Lab 8: Diffserv QoS strategy
* Understand implemented QoS strategy (classification and traffic treatment)
* Monitor via CLI, and CBQoS MIB

Lab 9: Optimize traffic using PfR (Optional)
* Observe traffic patterns
* Implement active load-sharing strategy with Performance Routing, making use of DMVPN link
