Key Components for Maximizing Video Conferencing Investments: Education (Part 4 of 4)

I previously wrote about how people, processes, and technology play integral roles in making the most of your video collaboration investment.  While each of these areas plays a significant role in the successful adoption of video, none is more essential than a robust education program. In this fourth and final installment, I’ll explore the important role education plays in maximizing video usage and ROI.

As with any new technology, attaining a level of proficiency is the fastest way to accelerate adoption and consequently increase ROI.  There are a number of ways to go about achieving proficiency:

  • Self-guided education using online tools, user guides & FAQs
  • Expert led training sessions
  • Customized training programs

Budgets will dictate how much can be invested in video education programs.  This is one area to strongly consider making an investment in because it will quickly pay for itself and continue to do so in the future.  A complete training program will include resource guides, hands-on training, online tutorials and a “train the trainer” program.  The process not only makes users self-sufficient, it helps create the role of video champion within the organization.  As we’ve previously addressed, the video champion assists with adoption, not only as a trusted guide to help the less experienced, but also to create programs that will facilitate further video adoption.

It’s clear that each of these four key components for maximizing video conferencing and telepresence individually will help ensure a successful video deployment; however, when strategically deployed as a collective program, maximizing the ROI on the video investment is far more attainable.
