Empowering the Internet Generation

The internet generation has their own way of working; they are not confined to one space and want flexibility to use different tools; they are more mobile, social, visual, and virtual.  They use technology to expand their community of influence across coworkers, suppliers, and customers, breaking down barriers to solve problems across and within these communities.

I have recorded a VoD were I share my thoughts on how Cisco is uniquely positioned to empower the internet generation to transform businesses by expanding the reach of video and making it pervasive.  Take a listen and share your thoughts with me.

  1. Whilst I can agree with the general notion that generations of young people pretty much have their lives moves to the cyber space, I also think you need to go deeper and explore more specifically internet sub-cultures. My husband is a University Professor and he noticed that among his year 1 students there is a proportion of Facebook (FB) fanatics but then there are those who hate FB and prefer Twitter and other platforms – revealing completely different internet behavior. Then again, youngsters in different countries use different platforms so saying that there is a single answer for the whole internet generation is too simplistic (in my humble opinion). Having said that, I cannot agree more with your view that all of these groups want different ways of working; that they do not want to be confined to the limits of a fixed workspace and so on. I wonder how well the world of commerce is prepared to this massive shift? Most companies still impose draconian internal policies about the use of social media, manual time sheets are still more important than results and executives are more than ever obsessed with control.
