Drawing on the parallels between business and sport

There’s a common theme between world class athletes in training for medal success at the Games and business people working towards winning business. They both have an inherent desire to succeed and look for the best solutions to help them achieve their goals. 

One example of this is the use of video. As the role of technology has evolved, so has the use of video, to the point where it has now become a vital tool in the performance kit bag. 

Not only is video now used to develop skills and improve technique, it can also help to prepare, plan and put in place the strategies they need to achieve success – from the locker room through to the boardroom. 

Video can also be used to connect people in other ways too.  Increasingly we are seeing video used to help business leaders communicate more effectively and colleagues to collaborate more closely on project delivery.  For athletes this might be allowing nutritional experts and coaches to develop programmes for athletes training remotely. Video also enhances the ability for athletes to stay in constant contact -- receiving encouragement and news from family and friends really can make the difference between winning and losing.

  1. Well I agree a video not only improves knowledge upon a subject but serves as a practical example. We all love websites that give free video tutorials that not only connect various people but also help hassle free learning resource. Thanks for writing upon this issue.

      Glad to be of service, Usman. I also think it is about giving people choices – some people prefer the opportunity to dwell over the written word, others find audio-visual more conducive to learning. Where I also think video is crucial is in conveying the humanity of people, whether it is the CEO leading a global town hall to inspire employees or a group campaigning on an issue. And these days you don’t need any budget – you only have to look at the number of people bothering to upload videos to sharing sites, and the number of subscribers for some channels, to see the power of video at grass roots!
