Tropo Opens New Revenue Opportunities

As the need for constant connectedness and mobility explodes, it’s becoming increasingly clear the collaboration market is taking off. We’re in a race to transform the way we work and communicate. We’re talking about a $53 billion opportunity, and it’s just beginning.

Building on our March 17 announcement of Cisco Spark, on June 1, we made a huge leap forward with the official acquisition of Tropo, a team that has built one of the world’s leading open communication platforms.

Since then, I’ve been happy to see the analysts and other industry experts embracing this move.

As Zeus Kerravala, founder and principal analyst with ZK Research, put it, “The company’s calling card has been its ability to leverage smaller purchases. It drops the talent and technology into the Cisco machine, and gains a market-leading or sometimes market-defining position from it.” (May 7, 2015, No Jitter)

Zeus is right. Tropo will allow us to define the external platform for Cisco Spark which will transform Spark from a standalone app into something much bigger – like a set of capabilities that a developer could add to other apps.  But as partners, you’re probably wondering how Tropo fits into our overall strategy and what it means for you.  Read More »

Partner-Weekly-Rewind-v2Each week, we’ll highlight the most important Cisco Partner Ecosystem news and stories, as well as point you to important, Cisco-related partner content you may have missed along the way. Here’s what you might have missed this week:

Off the Top

Gary Serda kicked off this past week on the Partner Blog with his look at capitalizing on the Windows Server 2003 migration opportunity. Microsoft is ending support for Windows Server 2003 on July 14 of this year and Gary wants to make sure our partners are able to take advantage of the marketing campaign resources that are available from Cisco.

Read through Gary’s blog and let us know if you need more information. Don’t be afraid to share your feedback on how we’re doing in providing the information you need to be successful.

Partner Voices: Making the Grade

I always mention how much I enjoy our ongoing Partner Voices series. It gives me a chance to meet many of our partners, at least virtually, and to get a little more in-depth with all the great solutions being produced by Cisco partners.

This week, I posted a look at what ePlus has going on in the education space. This blog looks at how ePlus has tackled some real world problems using Cisco technology. In turn they have improved security, provided world-class technology to students and created unique, one-on-one learning opportunities for students. Read More »

As the U.S. approaches the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, there are likely more than a few IT folks who are saying thanks for the ISR 4000 Series, and the challenges it has addressed. Over the past year, we’ve had over 1,000 customers deploy the ISR 4000 Series, and the industry has repeatedly validated the positive impact of the platform on the IT and networking community:

• “Best of Networking” Award, Best of Interop in Las Vegas (April 2014)

It Is Never Too Early To Build A Mobility Strategy

It’s only October, but the holiday season is already kicking into high gear. If the retail stores are any indication, it’s time to start planning for the holidays, regardless of which one you celebrate. Much like holiday planning, it’s never too early to start building your organization’s mobility strategy.

It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about employees at your organization or customers at your venue.

Everyone is bringing their own device.

Everyone is bringing their own device.

The influx of smartphones and tablets into the workplace is serious business. Apple, Samsung, and Google are duking it out for our affections these days. But it’s not just about reacting to “Bring your own device” (BYOD) trends in the office, or providing free Wi-Fi for your customers. Your employees and customers expect more robust mobile experiences, so you need a clear mobility strategy to stay ahead of their demands.

Unleashing IT magazine Profiles Early adopters of Cisco ACI

Application Centric Infrastructure Special Edition

Application Centric Infrastructure Special Edition

It has been just a few short weeks since the Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC) began shipping, building upon the availability of the Nexus 9000 series and laying the foundation for Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI).  The feedback from early adopters has been quite positive. As of August 13th, 2014 we had over 580 Nexus 9000/ACI customers and over 60 have bought the APIC within just two weeks.  We are highly encouraged by the momentum and are looking to build upon this over the course of our next fiscal year.

Recently, IT leaders have been talking about how software-defined networking (SDN) will usher new levels of business agility into their IT organizations, and it’s clear based on our early results that ACI not only delivers on these expectations but takes a leadership stance in delivering the industry’s best SDN solution. It is therefore a great time for us to take a look at these early adopters, explore and share their motivations for choosing the ACI approach.  Customers are genuinely excited with the open architecture and the flexibility and cost savings they get with a true systems approach and it is pertinent to understand their business challenges, architectural expectations and benefits they hope to receive over time.

To create a forum for these stories, we’ve produced a special edition of Unleashing IT — a publication I’m very excited to share with you as it sheds light on what I truly believe is a transformative innovation.
