At Cisco we are believers in the Borderless Networks mantra of any device, anywhere. One of the ways we deliver on this vision is with AnyConnect, our secure mobility client that provides a secure, encrypted connection back to corporate, just the thing for road warriors who might have to use public wifi in coffee shops or airports.
That’s one way to do it.

Did you know that the hosted virtual desktop market is expected to reach 15 percent of the worldwide enterprise desktop and laptop market by 2014? That means over the next few years, more and more of your customers will be looking to deploy virtual desktops using a solution that is scalable, reliable, and secure. With new products from Cisco and Citrix, you can equip your customers with the best desktop virtualization experience.
Today Cisco has unveiled the next phase of its Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI), enabling an uncompromised virtual desktop experience. Endpoints that are now available enable high-quality voice and video in virtual desktop environments.
Additionally, through a strategic alliance, Cisco and Citrix will improve virtual desktop end user experiences by offering solutions that ease the deployment of high-definition virtual desktops over a highly secure, “Citrix optimized” Cisco network. Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) has been optimized for Citrix XenDesktop to help your customers reduce the bandwidth necessary to deploy desktops virtually over wide area networks (WAN), enabling better scalability and optimal end-user collaboration experiences.
Here are additional details about what’s new:

As if desktop virtualization wasn’t complicated enough… let’s throw unified communications in there, and really roll the dice (sticking with the Vegas theme) with getting your small pilot/PoC off the ground. Right? Well traditionally, yes, but we’ve actually seen this movie before – one that tells a very similar story of convergence at the desktop that resulted in a major transformation in how enterprises leverage the intelligence in the network to bring two previously disparate worlds together (this reads better with the voice-over guy they use in Hollywood trailers). This is shaping up to be another great outing – as a number of my peers have already highlighted, there is an endless buffet-line of learning opportunities while you’re spending the week with us in Vegas. This year marks the entrance of the Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI) into the Cisco Live realm, and with it comes my favorite part – the opportunity to meet with customers from across the globe who are coming to this event, armed with the objective of getting the info they need to help get their desktop virtualization initiatives off the ground. As you plan to deploy mission critical business applications in cloud, the first thing that comes to mind is how can all the pieces of the puzzle (infrastructure, business apps, supporting tools etc.) be put together to get all the expected benefits and efficiencies, without introducing any negative tradeoffs. This requires that all the key differentiating technologies campaigned by the vendors to win your business should collectively work as a single solution, be scalable, easy to operate, and not introduce new complexities in your environment.
While individual technology focused documentation and scalability guidelines from vendors are great resource for getting in depth information about any particular technology, a lot of times they fall short of providing you the end to end solutions focused big picture. The most popular question I hear from customers is… “How would the Cisco Datacenter Business Advantage and our open ecosystem partner technologies work together as an end to end solution that provides value to more efficiently achieve the business objectives”? Few days back, I discussed the relevance of Cisco Datacenter Business Advantage technologies to your mission critical business applications.
