Heading into Partner Summit in Las Vegas at the end of the month, we have been bringing you waves of news related to this year’s event. Well it’s time we made the conversation less about Cisco and more about Cisco’s partners.
This marks the third year of the Cisco Partner Ambassador program. It provides partners with the opportunity to share their thoughts and impressions about the news they hear about during Cisco Partner Summit. As we continue to evolve the Partner Ambassador program, we are working hard to shape the mix of global resellers, distributors, and Independent Software Vendors (ISV) to more closely represent the participants at Partner Summit. Just like last year, we even have some partner ambassadors who won’t be onsite in Las Vegas, but will be joining us via Virtual Partner Summit (VPS).
Our partner ambassadors will be blogging and tweeting before, during, and after Partner Summit. As always, we’re excited to hear their perspectives and look forward to sharing their content with you. We launched the Cisco Partner Ambassador program last year, to provide a range of partners with the opportunity to share their thoughts and impressions from Partner Summit. This year, we’re excited to announce that the program not only will continue, but also has been expanded, with a fuller representation of the global Cisco channel community confirmed to participate, including partners who will be joining us primarily through Virtual Partner Summit.

Overnight sensations, right? If only it were that easy. The truth is these international pop stars spent their early years perfecting their craft before hitting it big. The same can be said about World Wide Technology (WWT), Cisco’s largest reseller to the United States Federal Government.
Founded in 1990, WWT has grown from a mere startup to a $4 billion+ organization with more than 1,700 employees. Their success secret? A relentless focus on their people, processes, and partnerships—including their close partnership with Cisco. Also of note is their ability to look ahead, anticipating profitable market shifts.
One of those is occurring now in the energy sector. Utilities around the world are eager to modernize energy grids with intelligent infrastructure. While Cisco is ready to help partners meet those needs with its recently introduced Connected Grid portfolio, WWT is also fully on board to generate new sources of revenue.

Any trip to Las Vegas would be incomplete without at least one pull of the lever on a slot machine—after all, gaming forms the core of the Las Vegas experience. But what about all that money changing hands? It has to be managed by someone. That someone is Global Cash Access (GCA), which processes US$24 million per day globally, making it the second-largest transaction processor in the world.
GCA’s products and services provide gaming patrons access to cash through a variety of methods, including ATM cash withdrawals, point-of-sale debit card transactions, credit card cash advances, and money transfers. While GCA has a thriving business, it had a problem on its hands—an aging infrastructure. Its network had originally been designed to be highly secure, but its processes were completely manual. The company had 2000 devices deployed in 800 locations worldwide, and provisioning and management was a nightmare. Their system often required at least two engineers and many days to add a new server, application, or customer to the network.
Of course, where there’s a network problem, Cisco partners are there to help. Cisco Gold Partner Nexus IS assisted in planning, designing, and implementing a new network and data center for GCA, while World Wide Technology, also a Cisco Gold Certified Partner, provided planning, design, and implementation for the data center elements of GCA’s infrastructure.
