I’m here at the 2013 SITA Air Transport IT Summit in Brussels with hundreds of the industry’s decision makers gathered to hear CEO’s and CIO’s address the community. In partnership with SITA, Cisco displayed the next generation of passenger monitoring and flow management solutions using Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX) Solution and SITA’s industry specific customizations at the summit.
The main themes emerging in the sessions from the experts sharing their insights for the future of the industry are the ‘mobile explosion’, the demands of next generation passengers and, of course, the challenges of business intelligence & Big Data.
After talking with many people about their visions and concerns for the future of the industry, it’s clear to me how CMX can help airport organizations stay aligned with these trends and overcome the industry challenges in order to be more efficient, profitable and competitive.

Today we’re talking tablets versus textbooks in the first of a series of blog posts inspired by cartoons. Does anyone have a good memory of their education textbooks? Textbooks are cumbersome… anyone disagree? Most textbooks are a bulky nuisance weighing down backpacks of elementary to high school students nationwide. What I’m wondering is: why burden shoulders and backs with textbooks when the solution is already present in mobile education? Cisco BYOD Solution for K12 Education transforms education allowing the freedom to go anywhere on campus with a mobile device and still perform the tasks you would on a wired network. Here’re my two cents on why schools should consider making the switch away from textbooks. Read More »

Every so often in covering the broadband and wireless industry, you run across a statistic that stops you cold. Here’s one: the Leichtman Research Group recently revealed that 1 percent of U.S. households canceled their home Internet service last year in favor of relying on wireless access provided via mobile networks or public Wi-Fi networks.
One percent. That is not a big number. Of course, it’s only a snapshot. The more intriguing question: What will next year’s number be? While the result in and of itself could be a statistical error, what’s more interesting is what it reveals: that it’s becoming easier than ever before to become untethered.

The city of Nice and Cisco, working with Think Global, showcased today the first Internet of Everything proof-of-concept (PoC) for a smart city. The project, called “Connected Boulevard,” builds on Connected Mobile Experiences to create innovative connected experiences by playing host to “guest” devices such as mobile phones and tablets used in the streets that get connected onto its Cisco wireless mesh network.
The project leverages Cisco’s mobility offerings of Outdoor Access Points, Wireless Controller and Mobility Services Engine to connect 200 sensors throughout the city to gather data. The true enabler of these new innovative connected experiences is the Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX) solution. Layered on top of the wireless infrastructure, CMX with its location analytics and browser-based mobile engagement opens the door for the city to deliver highly relevant information, insights and services to its residents and its visitors.
International city dignitaries and a local press delegation were treated to a walkabout tour at Boulevard Victor Hugo in the center of Nice by the Mayor and the City CEO, where they could experience the power of Connected Mobile Experiences..Nice deployed two components of Connected Mobile Experiences: CMX Analytics and CMX Browser Engage.
CMX Analytics enables city organizers to visualize the busy parts of the city and witness how device density varies across the day and the week.
