Today, I am pleased to share the news that Cisco WAAS 5.0 has been certified by SAP for integration with the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform 7.0. Cisco WAAS 5.0 on the Cisco WAVE-594 appliance has been tested for performance preservation, secure encrypted communication, reliability, and functional correctness with SAP NetWeaver 7.0. The WAN bandwidth utilization is typically reduced by 20 percent or more.
Wow, time flies. When I started blogging at Cisco, 2 years back (here), helping organizations formulate their cloud strategy was top of my mind. I’d ran a customer market research survey, and one of the things we learned that in certain parts of the world, the access bandwidth to the cloud was a significant concern -- in terms of reliability, cost and bandwidth available. From this customer feedback, we concluded that Cisco WAAS -- Wide Area Application Services -- that helps accelerate applications and optimizes bandwidth usage - was a key asset in helping our customers overcome this cloud adoption challenge. And from this feedback, we realised that our Cisco WAAS Planning and Design Services were key to some of our customers adopting cloud.
“You mean you can Facetime us from your camp site”, my daughter said incredulously. “From the middle of nowhere?” she continued. ”You lot are mad!” OK she was more annoyed that I was taking our WiFi-only iPad away with me as I took some time out of my day job in Cisco Data Center Services, to participate in 2 stages of the Deloitte Ride Across Britain. Prior to the ride, I blogged about this challenge here, discussing the scale of the event and our target to raise money for Paralympic athletes. A nine day, 969 mile cycle over some of the most challenging terrain in Britain, the ‘Deloitte Ride Across Britain’ was an immense physical and mental challenge. From Saturday 8th September until Sunday 16th September (just passed), over 700 riders took part in this epic journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats. For the second year in a row, Cisco provided key technical support to the riders, so that they were able to focus fully on this enormous and exciting journey.
Early this week, there was much buzz and speculation about how Cisco and Citrix will be doing business differently. The news was finally unveiled at Mark Templeton’s keynote, when he introduced Cisco CTO, Padmasree Warrior, and they jointly announced the expansion to the two companies’ current partnership on three strategic areas: cloud networking, cloud orchestration and mobile workstyles. Details are outlined in this press release.
Are you moving your apps to the cloud? What will the impact be on your network resources? How will you provide a consistent user experience? These are some of the questions we’ll be discussing this Tuesday, October 16, in part 2 of our webinar series, Conquer the Cloud. This specific webinar focuses on a topic that has been in the news a lot lately -- Optimizing Application Performance from Branch-to-Cloud.
