Cisco and NetApp: Build a Strong Foundation for Private Cloud with Flexpod for SAP Applications

June 8, 2012 at 1:51 am PST

Do I still need to introduce Flexpod, the integrated stack from Cisco, NetApp and VMware ? We wrote in this blog several times about this solution , which is obviously pretty successful.

NetApp, like EMC and HDS , is a very good partner of Cisco Data Center. That’s why I strongly encourage you when going to Cisco Live next week in San Diego  to visit NetApp booth (#826) , and attend the theater presentation (Tuesday 6:45 pm PST)dedicated to Flexpod  on Cisco booth .

Of course Flexpod is not the only integrated stacks that Cisco is providing on the market  –Vblock from VCE is another example. But we have reasons to believe that Flexpod is definitely a very good solution and approach for converged infrastructure and private cloud deployment  in a mission critical application environment .  Recently we wrote about Flexpod with Microsoft private cloud,  and even more recently about Flexpod and Citrix desktop virtualization.

At SAPPHIRE 2012, I asked Cisco VP Server Access and Virtualization Satinder Sethi  , and NetApp VP Thomas Stanley Global Alliances and System Integrators,  to tell us what benefits this pre-integrated unified architecture is bringing to the SAP customers.

As a proof point of the business impact of Flexpod, I invite you to watch what Waltz  executives have  to say about the benefits of this solution.
Established in 1985, the Walz Group is a leading provider of critical communications and compliance solutions – This solution allow the IT organization to focus on improving products and services instead of infrastructure support.

Cisco Partners with EMC on VSPEX

Yesterday, I had the honor to participate in EMC launch of VSPEX, a new EMC channel program designed to deliver virtualized infrastructure solutions for the private cloud.  We are collaborating with EMC to deliver these pre-tested infrastructures that combine EMC storage solutions with Cisco UCS and Nexus networking solutions and our other ecosystem partners, Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware. Cisco solutions are incorporated in 13 of the initial EMC VSPEX configurations.

Our customers have been telling us that they want data center infrastructure solutions that are easier to deploy but offer the best of breed vendors.  In 2009, Cisco and EMC  launched a joint venture, VCE , that delivered the Vblock converged infrastructure that integrated our technologies to help our customers accelerate their cloud infrastructure deployments based on VMware.  We have been very pleased with how our larger enterprise and Service Provider customers and channel partners have responded to the Vblock solutions.

Now EMC is expanding the flexibility of these integrated solutions with EMC VSPEX.  EMC VSPEX and Cisco Validated Designs offer our customer more “choice” when it comes to choosing an integrated data center solution that meets their needs – while taking the out the risk for our customers by ensuring the integrated designs have been pre-tested in Cisco and EMC labs.

For our Cisco channel partners, integrated solutions offer more market opportunity in selling complete, highly-flexible solutions to their customers, resulting in a higher attach rate of components, and a bigger sale – which will be good news to our thousands channel partners flying down to San Diego for our Partner Summit conference.

Here I am (Wendy Bahr) with Chris Panzeca at EMC’s VSPEX event on April 12, 2012.

It’s a boy!

“It’s a boy!!!” my friend Kim told me just minutes after her 18 week ultrasound. Even though we were texting I could tell her excitement was restrained despite the exclamation points. Later that day she shared “he’s healthy but…[big inhale]…he has a cleft lip [even bigger exhale]”

This unexpected information meant more tests for her and her unborn son, Mason. It meant a series of surgeries starting at 6 months until age 5. It brought a lot of anxiety to Kim’s entire family.

In addition, the diagnosis raised a lot of questions such as, “Will Mason be okay? How will my family support him and cope with our baby having surgery? Will my insurance cover all that is needed to treat his cleft lip? Will his treatment be personalized? Will I…will he…be subjected to unnecessary tests? Will there be a lot of tests? Can I trust that his healthcare team is up to date on all the latest treatments? Will there be a team of healthcare experts to support us as Mason recovers from each surgery?”

Kim had a lot to prepare for and wanted to feel confident about Mason’s healthcare team. She wanted to know that the most experienced doctors would provide the best care possible based on leading industry practices.  What she wanted most was peace of mind that her son would be ok.

Improving the outcomes of patients like Mason while simultaneously alleviating the burden on physicians is no easy task. It takes a bold and innovative company to tackle such a challenge, one who is at the forefront of the healthcare industry and can envision improved care, better outcomes, and healthier people.

CareCore National is such a company. The company currently has contracts with more than 25 health plans working with 600,000 physicians providing care to 68.8 million people.
