A Love Letter to Video

Our feelings about video are undeniable year-round, but what better day to make a profession of love than Valentine’s day! Take a look at this “anonymously” written letter I found taped to my personal video unit this morning…

Dear Video,

This Valentine’s Day, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate the exciting relationship we’ve shared over the years and make a toast to our future. Together, we bridge the gaps created by distance, time—even language barriers. Whether we’re in the boardroom or on the go, together we make the connections happen to nourish business and personal relationships.  Whether I’m with you in an immersive collaboration room, or using you on the device in my pocket, I know that you are always there for me -- helping me connect with my customers, partners, and colleagues, making my life so much easier.

valentine's day blog image 2_14_14Over the years, we’ve worked together to spread the love. We’ve brought Santa Claus to hospitalized children. We’ve brought U.S. troops home for the holidays. We’ve caught wedding fever and helped brides get the feedback needed to say “Yes!” to the dress by connecting with faraway family and friends. We’ve given kids in Ghana the opportunity to see snow in Hershey, Pennsylvania—and connect with other students half a planet away.

Video, you’ve made collaboration better. For more than 2.6 billion minutes monthly, video enriches the WebEx meeting experience on desktops as well as the more than 5.5 million tablets, smartphones and laptops that have downloaded the WebEx app. Meetings are now fully interactive experiences that offer real-time feedback and visual context to the more than 11 million registered WebEx hosts who meet with the more than 46 million coworkers, customers and clients on WebEx each month via the cloud. Is Your WLAN Ready for Unified Communications & Collaboration?

January 31, 2014 at 5:00 am PST

As Wi-Fi continues to be the primary mode of access, enterprise Unified Communication(UC) applications usage is increasing with smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Customers are asking, is there anything I can do to prioritize Jabber or Lync traffic over others or even identify how much of the traffic is really collaboration traffic vs. other types of media. The recently introduced Wireless Release 7.6 enhances the ability to classify Microsoft Lync 2013 and Jabber with Cisco WLAN Infrastructure.

In the first blog about Application Visibility and Control over Cisco WLAN, I captured what is AVC and the capabilities included in the release 7.4. In a subsequent blog, I had captured a success story about a customer who benefited from the reliability by deprioritizing scavenger level applications as well as captured highlights of the enhancements in release 7.5. This blog captures how the release 7.6 allows popular collaboration applications to be accurately classified and prioritized as well as provides a teaser to some of the innovations that can be expected in the future.

What exact capabilities AireOS 7.6 provide ?

The protocol pack 6.3 introduced in AireOS 7.6 allows you to identify and prioritize not just Jabber but also sub-classify Cisco Jabber Audio, Cisco Jabber IM and Cisco Jabber Video. Customers may want to prioritize the Cisco Jabber Audio as the highest priority while the others may be lower priority. Similarly you can classify not just Microsoft Lync but also Microsoft Lync Audio, rtcp and Microsoft Lync Video and thereby prioritize them separately. Read More »

Cisco Extended Care Improves Patient Engagement

Cisco’s new Extended Care Solution enables patient engagement and care team collaboration at any time and from anywhere including home, office and other remote locations.  Cisco Extended Care is a new browser-based health and wellness collaboration solution platform that features ad hoc and scheduled video consults, secure messaging, customizable pre-appointment questionnaires, a video library platform and the ability to manually capture readings from personal wellness devices.

Cisco Extended Care SolutionIn addition, the solution offers open application programming interfaces (APIs), enabling users to integrate with other third-party applications and environments, such as video workflow, into their existing patient portal solution, thus protecting existing investments.

“Cisco’s Extended Care solution offers our customers a new way to cater to patient wants and needs, ultimately providing patients with a better experience and increasing their engagement and involvement with their own care,” said David Plummer, general manager, Cisco’s Care-at-a-Distance Solutions. “By allowing patients and their care teams the opportunity to connect for both ad hoc and prescheduled video consults, and by providing secure messaging capabilities and online questionnaires, our hospital and clinic customers will be able to operate in a more efficient manner.”

A recent Cisco survey showed that nearly 74% of the 1,547 respondents were open to sharing medical information online, and the majority of those patients were comfortable with the idea of communicating with doctors using technology instead of seeing them in person. This shift in consumer attitude opens up new opportunities for hospitals and clinics to increase efficiency, while at the same time providing greater continuity of care, driving wellness education and potentially lowering the cost of care delivery. With new lines of communication and an increased dialogue between patients and doctors, hospitals can hope to see lower rates of readmittance.

If you are planning to attend HIMSS14 in February, be sure to visit the Cisco booth (#1453) to see first-hand how Cisco Extended Care can help your organization streamline and improve patient care.
