I’ve been using online banking for a while now. Just the other day, I had a quick question and saw “Chat Live with a representative” so I decided try it out. As I got comfortable asking a few questions, I started to want to do more. I wanted to talk with the banker. And I’d like the banker to look at my account page with me so I knew we were looking at the same information. It would have helped if I could see the banker and have her give me on-screen guidance.
In a recent report, Alyson Clarke from Forrester interviewed a number of financial institutions that have been using various channels to communicate with their customers from online chat to video. The report revealed that while online chat can be a great way to offer live help, the experience is probably better suited to simple situations.
Apple’s FaceTime has made video communications convenient and simple to use. Video technology has dramatically improved; so it’s time for financial institutions to move beyond chat and offer video banking, true video banking. Read More »

This week I had a great opportunity to participate in the first ever Tech on Deck with Robert Scoble and Scott Jordan.
Tech on Deck is being broadcast from SCOTTeVEST’s headquarters in Ketchum, Idaho, which happens to be a mile away from Sun Valley where the annual Allen & Co. Conference is taking place. This event boasts an impressive list of the who’s who in technology and media so Robert and Scott thought what better time to do a live broadcast exploring many different topics ranging from technology, to startups, to music and more. We provided the video collaboration and wireless network technology to help make Robert and Scott’s vision become reality.
During our discussion, we talked about what I am doing at Cisco, our vision for collaboration and dug deep into video and a hot new category called business messaging, Cisco Spark and our cloud platform. I am glad to have supported this inaugural event and check out the full interview here.
Broadcast live streaming video on Ustream
Congratulations to the entire Tech on Deck team for a successful event!

At our recent Collaboration Summit in Boca Raton, I had the opportunity to sit down with some of our customers and talk about how they are incorporating video into their organizations. It’s clear that many of our customers are already seeing the business benefits of video – whether it’s using remote expert services to improve pipeline conversion or launching new services more quickly through video collaboration.
But what if you looked at video not just as a way to help you improve what you are already doing, but as a way to allow you to do things you couldn’t do before? Things that previously were not feasible because of cost, resources, or other perceived barriers?
What if you could offer health services to a segment of the population you could not previously reach?

Once upon a time, not so long ago, high-end videoconferencing was a luxury item available mostly to the C-suite. It required special equipment. It was expensive. It wasn’t all that intuitive to use. That was then.
Today, video is part of day-to-day communications – not just for high-powered business interactions, but also for personal connections. In a world of distributed workforces where colleagues are separated by miles and organizations hire where the talent is located, video has become the standard form of collaboration and communication as a way to keep the pace of innovation and efficiency needed to stay competitive. Unlike before, the equipment now ranges from specialized rooms with high-end, high-def equipment to tablets and smartphones that provide the needed level of quality and fidelity required to be useful to the users. How are we getting from pricey and exclusive to completely pervasive? Technology catches up to what we want it to do. It’s the Moore’s Law theory applied to all technology that is valuable in business – performance increases while the economics and footprint decreases.
When Cisco dove into the waters of video collaboration, the demand was from the boardrooms of the business world. Business was becoming more global, yet organizations were trying to reduce travel costs –a communications conundrum. How could we improve the videoconferencing experience? Read More »

Another successful Halloween party at Cisco thanks to Cisco TelePresence and WebEx. I lost my title as first place winner this year to someone dressed as an Outhouse, yes folks, an Outhouse. And everyone else stepped up their game too and some even adding additional elements like dancing and props. I feel fortunate to be part of such a great team and look forward to our 3rd Annual Collaboration Solutions Marketing celebration next year. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!
