Video Changes the Equation

At our recent Collaboration Summit in Boca Raton, I had the opportunity to sit down with some of our customers and talk about how they are incorporating video into their organizations. It’s clear that many of our customers are already seeing the business benefits of video – whether it’s using remote expert services to improve pipeline conversion or launching new services more quickly through video collaboration.

But what if you looked at video not just as a way to help you improve what you are already doing, but as a way to allow you to do things you couldn’t do before? Things that previously were not feasible because of cost, resources, or other perceived barriers?

“One Size Fits All” is for Hats – Not Video

Once upon a time, not so long ago, high-end videoconferencing was a luxury item available mostly to the C-suite. It required special equipment. It was expensive. It wasn’t all that intuitive to use.  That was then.

Today, video is part of day-to-day communications – not just for high-powered business interactions, but also for personal connections. In a world of distributed workforces where colleagues are separated by miles and organizations hire where the talent is located, video has become the standard form of collaboration and communication as a way to keep the pace of innovation and efficiency needed to stay competitive. Unlike before, the equipment now ranges from specialized rooms with high-end, high-def equipment to tablets and smartphones that provide the needed level of quality and fidelity required to be useful to the users. How are we getting from pricey and exclusive to completely pervasive? Technology catches up to what we want it to do. It’s the Moore’s Law theory applied to all technology that is valuable in business – performance increases while the economics and footprint decreases.

Another Great Team Halloween Party Using Video Collaboration

Another successful Halloween party at Cisco thanks to Cisco TelePresence and WebEx.  I lost my title as first place winner this year to someone dressed as an Outhouse, yes folks, an Outhouse.  And everyone else stepped up their game too and some even adding additional elements like dancing and props.  I feel fortunate to be part of such a great team and look forward to our 3rd Annual Collaboration Solutions Marketing celebration next year.  I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!

You don’t have to look far to see how mobile video is changing how we communicate, collaborate and consume information. From collaborating with co-workers across the globe while you catch the morning train to connecting with friends and family from the comfort of your sofa. For the 10,000 users on our ACE service introduction network, the new WebEx-enabled TelePresence Meeting capabilities mean everyone gets to enjoy seamless two-way video, audio, and data sharing between Cisco TelePresence and Cisco WebEx Conferencing. Users no longer have to ask, “Do I have my meetings via TelePresence or WebEx?”

The host easily schedules the WebEx-enabled TelePresence meeting using the WebEx Productivity Tool in Outlook or the Smart Scheduler Web Portal.
