The journey thus far… Cisco VXI with VMware

Well it’s about a week since we wrapped up Cisco Live…  Looking back, it was a great week of insights, dialog with customers, and some great interaction with our partner ecosystem.  This year’s Cisco Live was special for VXI, as it marked the major “coming out” of our end-to-end VXI system at this venue, with lots of proof points established in the 9 months since we launched at Cisco’s Collaboration Summit.

I’m especially excited about the traction our joint solution with VMware has gained, as demonstrated by customers embracing VXI and desktop virtualization.  I had the opportunity to join James Lomonaco (Senior Manager Alliance Marketing, VMware) in an interview discussing the journey thus far with our joint solution for desktop virtualization -- you can check it out here.   In the coming weeks you’re going to hear more about the joint innovation we share, and some great examples of why the Cisco-VMware solution presents a truly interlocked, integrated solution combining the most innovative, and widely adopted hypervisor platform (VMware vSphere), with the most rapidly growing x86 bladesystem (Cisco UCS).  This workspace-optimized infrastructure integrated with VMware View, delivers on the promise of the highest-fidelity user centric computing platform for customers on their journey to IT as a service.

In an upcoming post, I’ll share with you some real examples of joint innovation in the Cisco-VMware solution that make this platform unlike any other when it comes to supporting desktop virtualization.  As you know, VMworld 2011 is only weeks away, and we’ll have a great suite of content for you to take in, as you make your way back to Vegas, so stay tuned…

Can Workspace-Aware Infrastructure Deliver Better End-User Outcomes?

Yesterday I had the opportunity to sit down with a panel comprised of the following folks here at Cisco Live!  First off, my thanks to Friea Berg (@friea) for creating this opportunity.  Events like Cisco Live are a great venue, but pulling together a group of industry peers to have a meaningful dialog around the challenges our mutual customers face, and how we can better serve them is something that magnifies the impact of these events.  So, yesterday I was lucky to join the following folks: Read More »

Cisco Live, VXI, and the New Convergence

As if desktop virtualization wasn’t complicated enough… let’s throw unified communications in there, and really roll the dice (sticking with the Vegas theme) with getting your small pilot/PoC off the ground.  Right?  Well traditionally, yes, but we’ve actually seen this movie before – one that tells a very similar story of convergence at the desktop that resulted in a major transformation in how enterprises leverage the intelligence in the network to bring two previously disparate worlds together (this reads better with the voice-over guy they use in Hollywood trailers). Cisco Live, VXI, and the Challenge of Monday 8:55am

So here we are, Monday at Cisco Live…  Most likely you cut your weekend short to get here on time, or… you fought some insane TSA line-ups and a full-body x-ray scan this morning to squeeze onto an oversold flight.  Regardless, you’re hopefully reading this from the comfort of a quiet, convenient spot you’ve staked out in the Mandalay Bay with a vodka-tonic within arms-reach (well maybe not). Live Demos at Cisco Live, Las Vegas next week!

I hope you are all packed and ready for Cisco Live – Las Vegas next week. In the Sin City we will demo our innovative products and solution architectures that will help simplify and accelerate your journey to private and hybrid clouds. The best way to quickly learn about our products and solutions is by seeing them “LIVE IN ACTION”. With more than 50-60 demos being showcased across different focus areas (e.g. Borderless networks, collaboration, data center etc.) in the Cisco Main Booth, I thought it would be helpful to highlight the data center specific demos.

Dedicated to Cisco Data Center products and solution architectures, we have total of 12 demo kiosks with different themes as listed below. Each of the kiosks will have one or more demos that will highlight Cisco’s unique offering in that focus area. All the kiosks will be staffed by Cisco experts to answer all your tough questions. I am very excited to be part of the show and would love the opportunity to meet you in person. I will be available at the data center demo kiosk 12 -- “Automate and Simplify Your Journey to Cloud”.
