So, who runs VMware on Cisco UCS. Well, these VMworld attendees were kind enough to share with me during the breakfast session.
Daily Blogger Techminute is back in Vegas Baby, Vegas!! This time it’s for VMworld 2011. So far the show has been huge (20,000+ attendees) and past paced with announcements from Cisco, VMware and our partners. The Cisco booth is focused on Cloud/Virtualization, VDI/VXI and Automation, so we thought it would be great to kick off the week with experts in all of those areas.
Our techblogger guests today were:
- Jay Cuthrell (@qthrul, Principal Lead vArchitect at VCE, http://fudge.org)
- Steve Kaplan (@roidude, VP Virtualization Practice at INX, http://bythebell.com)
- Nick Weaver (@lynxbat, Sr.vSpecialist at EMC, http://nickapedia.com) Read More »
A few weeks ago, VMware announced a huge number of updates to their product portfolio, under the “Cloud Infrastructure Suite” umbrella. Without going into all the product/feature specifics, as plenty of blogs have already covered that, I wanted to highlight several areas where IT organizations will now have the opportunity to truly take advantage of joint integration and world-class technology from Cisco and VMware. I highlight these because many of them will be demo’d at the Cisco Booth (#700) at VMworld next week, as well as covered in white-boarding and Q&A sessions with our “Ask the Experts” panel each day.
So if you’re going out to VMworld 2011 in Las Vegas next week, I highly recommend you check out these technologies and opportunities to improve how IT is delivered to your business:
- “Monster VMs” -- one of the key areas of vSphere 5 is enhanced capabilities to host large, Tier-1 application VMs. This is a huge advancement as IT organizations look to continue to drive greater utilization and efficiency in the data center, without sacrificing performance and availability. And there is no better x86 server platform to run those mission-critical applications on that Cisco UCS. Not only has the UCS plaform been independently proven to provide world-record performance for almost every application type, but more and more customers are voting with their wallets that UCS will be their next generation server platform (now up to 7400 customers as of August 2011). In the continuing quest for a fully virtualized data center, IT professionals have a new tool that promises to dramatically simplify the journey: the Vblock. This 60-minute TechWiseTV episode explores this latest advancement in unified computing and shows how it will make it easier for organizations to build out data centers.
Episode 62: Vblock: Accelerating the Journey to Private Cloud
You will learn how Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms simplify the acquisition and deployment process by integrating best of breed technology from Cisco, EMC and VMware into prepackaged units of infrastructure that are optimized for a wide range of virtualized solution deployments and how since each Vblock is pre-built and ready for deployment and the modular design is highly scalable to meet growth needs, your projects will get completed faster and you will have investment protection, and lower total cost of ownership.
A little while back I blogged about the Vblock solution for Cisco HCS. This time around I’ve got answers about another solution, Vblock for Cisco Unified Communications, which is designed for delivering hosted services.
To succeed in today’s fast paced, global economy, businesses must be able to communicate and collaborate. This requires access to a range of voice, video, and messaging communication tools. While the essence of communication is to break down barriers, organizations today must contend with the barriers imposed by increasingly complex communications environments. The VCE solution enables rapid deployment of Cisco Unified Communications applications on Vblock Infrastructure Platforms to provide an integrated hardware and software solution that connects people, information, and teams, helping to enable comprehensive and effective collaborative experiences.
