RISC/UNIX migration is creating big opportunities for Cisco in the Data Center. Last week at Oracle OpenWorld 2012 we highlighted world-record Oracle application and database performance with the Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®). In my conversations with customers many indicated they were very anxious to migrate their Oracle database sooner rather than later. This feedback is consistent with what many analysts are predicting will be a massive migration off of proprietary RISC/UNIX platforms over the next few years.
Watch the video below for a short discussion on the successes, benefits, and services methodology of Cisco’s RISC/UNIX migration program. Read More »

What comes to mind when you think about the color blue? Whenever I think about the color blue in nature, I’m transported to the clear blue skies and turquoise ocean waves of Hawaii. For many people, the color blue has a restorative quality: It’s invigorating and puts us back in control of priorities. My affinity for “all things blue,” is why I was attracted to this story about Cisco customer, BlueWave Computing, LLC., a cloud services provider based in Atlanta, Georgia. BlueWave’s existing server and storage infrastructure had reached its limits and was creating performance and reliability issues. That’s when BlueWave decided it was time for a change. They worked with Cisco to reinvigorate their data center, making it ready for next generation of cloud services, and clearing the way for “nothing but blue skies ahead.”

One for All
The vision: Moving the power of the data center to the branch office.
The design: An Integrated Services Router G2, delivering blade technology and virtualization to enable more services with fewer devices.
The result: The Intel® Xeon® processor-based Cisco® Unified Computing System™ (UCS) E-Series Servers.
Using innovative technology, the Cisco UCS™ E-Series has the power to connect multiple servers from various locations in just a single router. The footprint is small, while flexibility is huge.
CONET, a Germany-based IT consultancy company, is experiencing the benefits of the Cisco UCS E-Series. With many options available, CONET is able to customize their IT solution and bring together multiple diverse systems. As a result, the company saves time, money, and resources.
