Cisco recently started shipping the newest member to the UCS family – the storage-optimized UCS C3260 Rack Server. Data centers these days are bursting at the seams with unstructured data from new emerging applications and services. According to IDC, 80% of data is unstructured and continues to grow at a 16.2% CAGR. The ability for data centers to economically and rapidly ingest, index, analyze, and archive all this data is top of mind.
Cisco first introduced the C3000 family of storage optimized UCS rack servers in 2014 with the launch of the UCS C3160 rack server last fall. While on the surface the two servers models may look Read More »

According to scientists, the age of smartphones has left humans with such a short attention span that even a goldfish can hold a thought for longer. On an average, human attention span has fallen from 12 seconds in year 2000 to 8 seconds in today’s smart-world.

Delivering on the promise of Big Data and Analytics takes an ecosystem of partners who collaborate to integrate the underlying technologies so your organization can turn data into business value – faster. That’s why Cisco and MapR are teaming to deliver integrated solutions that are transforming the way organizations deploy and capitalize on the value of Hadoop technology.
The Cisco UCS Integrated Infrastructure for Big Data with MapR solution combines the MapR Distribution including Apache Hadoop with Cisco UCS Integrated Infrastructure for Big Data, which unifies computing, storage, connectivity, and management capabilities. This validated solution delivers an industry-leading architectural platform for Hadoop-based applications.
Cisco and MapR continue to innovate to enable new customer use cases. MapR Senior Solutions Architect, Dr. James Sun, provides an excellent example on his latest blog on Dockerizing Apache Webservers with Cisco UCS, Apache Mesos and MapR.

Fast IT – It started in our Data Center, and now it’s everywhere
“Fast IT” started for Cisco as “Easy IT”. It was our data center infrastructure engineers who saw that they could automate a 3-week job (building virtual server infrastructure in the data center) in under 15 minutes, and of course they jumped at the chance. They built a set of scripts to automate these processes and saved themselves a LOT of work.

We’re off to another edition of VMworld with some great technology to showcase. Our theme this year is your data center is everywhere, the center of innovation. And talking about innovation we will be demoing some recent work around our desktop virtualization solution with VMware. We will have demo pods showcasing our UCS solutions for Virtual SAN and VDI as well as a demo showing graphic acceleration for VDI with Cisco UCS and NVIDIA GRID on Horizon. By the way, did you catch NVIDIA’s announcement today about GRID 2.0. This is pretty exciting news as graphic acceleration is key to a seamless user experience when you virtualize desktops or applications. With Cisco UCS a market leader in blade servers we’re looking forward to bringing virtualized GPUs to our B-series servers. As we see more and more graphic-intensive applications being virtualized to protect intellectual property by keeping data safely in the data center Cisco is working with NVIDIA and ISVs to qualify hardware configuration for specific applications. Read about Esri ArcGISPro recent testing on Cisco UCS C240-M4 and NVIDIA K2 GPU. Read More »
