Turn Meeting Rooms into Collaboration Rooms

These days it’s pretty rare that my meetings include only the people in the room. I work in a global company and my co-workers are spread out across the world. We work successfully together any time and from wherever we are through video collaboration. Video isn’t just a nice bonus: 87% of remote users feel more connected to their team and process when using videoconferencing, according to a recent GigaOm report.

You have conference rooms. Adding video should be easy. We agree. And that’s a big part of the focus for our latest endpoint products, announced last month.

The Cisco MX Series endpoints turn meeting rooms into collaboration rooms. Our design philosophy is what we consider “Scandinavian simplicity meets Californian approachability.”

All these collaboration room systems were built on the same philosophy:

  • Simplicity
  • Appealing design
  • Easy installation
  • Intuitive, consistent user interface
  • Improved quality, performance
  • New intelligent video collaboration experiences

This expansion in the MX Series means you can bring Read More »

Scandinavian Minimalism Combined With Californian Approachability Wins Red Dot Award 2014

In the world of product design, the best intertwine form and function.  Design stalwarts Apple, Sony and BMW get it right; and we’re honored to be listed alongside them as Red Dot Award winners.

I’m proud to report that all the new Cisco video collaboration endpoints we unveiled during Enterprise Connect received the coveted Red Dot Award 2014 for product design:

This recognition is a rewarding validation for the no-compromise, design led approach we undertook when developing our newest video solutions. And just as important as the awards is the feedback I’ve received from the people who use our technology.

You let us know that you appreciate the attention to detail and unparalleled user experience. And our focus on harmonizing the technology with the human aspect of face-to-face communications. By combining Scandinavian minimalism with Californian approachability, I believe we’ve succeeded in letting the technology recede and emphasizing the connections between people. It’s about allowing people to connect with one another, anywhere, in a powerful way without distraction – from the browser to the boardroom.

Design Excellence Delivers Uncompromising Experience…And Coveted Red Dot Award 2014

My mission since joining Cisco Collaboration is to deliver unparalleled experiences across all of our products – in every pocket, office and conference room.

And, we are delivering on that mission. March 2014 has been an amazing month for Cisco Collaboration. We unveiled our newly designed video portfolio; revealed a second-to-none user experience that spans across the entire collaboration portfolio –  from the browser to the boardroom; had a tremendous presence at Enterprise Connect, and that’s just the beginning…

I have even more exciting news to share. Our newly launched video products have been awarded six Red Dot Award 2014 for high design quality – an incredible validation of our design-led approach. The following Cisco Collaboration products all received the coveted Red Dot quality seal:

Putting the User Experience First at Enterprise Connect

Today in my keynote at Enterprise Connect in Orlando, I talked about what really matters – the user experience with collaboration.  And, when you look at the experience that’s offered today, and you talk to end users, you realize today’s tools do not match the way people want to work.

People today want the collaboration experience to be as good on the go as it is in the office. They want it to be simple, incredibly intuitive and work across just about any device they care to use, from the boardroom to the browser and everywhere in between.

Our mission is to get amazing yet affordable collaboration into the hands of more people.  We are working on this every day.  Our recent announcement—the single biggest refresh our video portfolio has ever seen—is just one example of how we’re doing that. But, we’re not just looking at how Cisco can change the game. We are always looking at other companies that have a similar mindset and trying to see how we can do great things together.

Today, I had the pleasure of being joined onstage by Rajen Sheth of Google. We announced an exciting collaboration that I think Read More »

Reimagining Collaboration: Using Video as the Currency for Trust

At Enterprise Connect this week, I will be hosting the session “Use Video Collaboration as a Tool to Become a Trusted Advisor to Your Business.” I will be joined by Jeremy Stubbs, VP of business development from Sabre Holdings, and Matt Benefiel, Chief Court Administrator from the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. In addition to these panelists, you will hear first hand from two customers about the video collaboration strategies they’ve used to differentiate themselves by strengthening trust relationships.

Using video collaboration to help build trust with colleagues, customers and partners has been my passion for most of the past decade. What better way to make a deep connection than to look at someone in the eyes and say, “I’ve got you covered.” Short of being physically in the room and shaking hands when you say this, high-definition video is today the most effective communications tool to impart this message.

The set of technologies we’re introducing this week is all about making video collaboration so compelling that trust and confidence can be easily exchanged – and at every level, not just the corner office. As Rowan Trollope says in a previous post, we’re “reimagining collaboration.” What this means is we’re making video more consumable:  easier to use and access, offering the right quality and features for business efficacy, and more affordable so that they can extend to every part of the organization and companies of all sizes.
