Observations from Mobile World Congress 2015

I have just returned from a very interesting and jammed-packed week at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona. A record 93,000 plus people are estimated to have attended this year’s premier technology festival. Much has changed in the industry over the last year since I reported my observations of MWC 2014. However, what is most remarkable is how the boundaries of mobility continue to expand and morph – everything now seems to be mobile? As such, the show offers a fascinating glimpse into the future of technology and the major social and business shifts that we can expect in the next few years.

The following are my personal observations and extrapolations from the show Read More »

SUMMARY: Hybrid – The Next Wave of Cloud Innovation

Due diligence can create an inaccurate impression that IT is slow to respond to the needs of the business.

The next wave of cloud innovation will come in the form of open, secure connectivity that drives a globally connected network of clouds—a model which we call the Intercloud.

The Intercloud is a hybrid cloud model based on a mix of private, public and partner clouds that offers flexibility, security and policy management to CIOs.

How the Intercloud Empowers Mobility Intelligence for Service Providers

When I talk to service providers around the world, many of them tell me how difficult it is to capture intelligent information about their customers’ mobile usage, including whom their top customers are, which social media sites are being accessed, and what information is being streamed live. What’s more, mobile data and usage continues to grow exponentially which will make capturing this information even more difficult over time. According to the most recent Cisco® Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast by 2019, there will be over 21 billion mobile connections. In addition, mobile data traffic will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 57 percent, reaching 24.3 exabytes per month by 2019.

Now, mobile service providers need to better manage all Read More »

We are putting a focus on visual experiences at Mobile World Congress 2015 (MWC 2015) this week in Barcelona.

Barcelona-based street-artist Zosen and his team of painters are putting their graffiti-style talents to work as they create a lavish wall mural to portray the mobility elements and hot topics at MWC 2015.

There is also a story within the artistic story. A portion of the mural’s left side will be dedicated Read More »

“Standing Room Only” in the Service Provider Booth at Cisco Live Milan 2015

Written by Igor Dayen, SP Product and Solutions MarketingIgor Photo

If you had a chance to join us at Cisco Live Milan last month, thank you very much for making this another exciting event for all of us. If you missed out being there in person, let me give you a brief summary of the highlights. Milan is the main industrial, commercial, and financial center of Italy and a leading global city where the EXPO 2015  will take place. What could be better than such a city to host the Cisco Live 2015 event!   It proved to be fertile grounds for driving innovations with our service provider customers and partners.   Our exhibition was structured to tell the story of the fddOpen Network Strategy by presenting over 15 technology and business demos.    We also brought the newest routers and switches with us to showcase the latest innovations that service providers can start deploying today.   Last but not least we have teamed up with the DevNet area where attendees could get their hands on developing applications and learning on virtualization, orchestration, and automation.  Our service provider booth of the Cisco Campus in the World of Solutions was very busy: “standing room only” and so many insightful conversations were conversations around the NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) and the SDN (Software Defined Networks), as pillars for delivering cloud services and an automated networking handling respectively, have matured significantly and are ready for prime time.
