Following the ITU hosted CTO meeting held in Dubai on November 18 2012, where I represented our CTO Padmasree Warrior, I had the pleasure to present at the ITU-T Global Standards Symposium [GSS] in Dubai on November 19 2012.
This panel was of particular interest to us because Cisco observed a number of industries brought together on the same stage. Energy, healthcare, and transportation are important to how we live and work, and Cisco engages in each of these sectors.
While this panel demonstrated the huge technological strides each sector is taking, I noted that these advances did not occur overnight. Each of these sectors has evolved its approach with a lot of effort, over a long period of time. Read More »

By 2016, more than 10 billion connected devices will populate our planet. According to data from the Cisco Visual Networking Index, mobile connection speeds and data use are anticipated to rise with this influx of smartphones, tablets and laptop computers.

I recently had the honor to speak at the Wi-Fi Global Congress in San Francisco. One thing is certain: Wi-Fi’s importance and industry relevance continues. While not quite the same order of magnitude as the Mobile World Congress, the event attracted 350 people, a tenfold increase since the last time the Wi-Fi Broadband Alliance (WBA) visited San Francisco. The WBA now has 95 corporate members, reflecting a member base that has doubled over the last 12 months. The membership includes a mix of leading Wi-Fi, mobile, and broadband network operators; global service providers and media players; as well as technology providers and partners.
