Recently Cisco was honored to be named in the Automation World 2011 First Team Honorees list. This recognizes Cisco as a leading player and trusted partner for manufacturing, distribution and industrial companies.
Cisco Wins 'First Team' Honoree Award from Automation World Readers
In the category of ‘Networking Components – Ethernet’ Cisco was named as a First Team Honoree, and that doesn’t surprise me. Over the years folks have stopped coming up to me and asking what Cisco is doing at, say, an Industrial Networking event such as the Rockwell Automation Fair. Now folks are really interested in how Cisco is leading the change for Ethernet for the Factory. Cisco’s partnership with Rockwell has spawned the Cisco Industrial Ethernet (IE3000) range, and the Stratix 8000. The Stratix 5700, a smaller form factor and lower entry point than the 8000 is the newest addition to the Range. My recent: Cisco Live UK: Day 4, Part 2 – Rockwell Automation IP Ethernet shows me interviewing Mark Daniels of Rockwell Automation. Mark is the Rockwell Automation Ltd. Business Manager, Architecture and Software, based in Milton Keynes in the UK. Mark is talking about the Cisco Live Demonstration of Motion Control in the video blog. This is the kind of partnership that help produce products and Solutions that helped us win this award.
The second Honor was for ‘Networking Components – Wireless’. Read More »

Last Fall Cisco was a major exhibitor at the Rockwell Automation Fair in Chicago. Rockwell Automation have just published a video where Kevin Davenport from Cisco (Cisco is a Rockwell Automation Strategic Alliance Partner), talks about the company’s Industrial Ethernet switch technology for a secure Ethernet enabled factory, developed in collaboration with Rockwell Automation.
Hear Kevin being interviewed by Theresa Houck, Editor of the Journal from Rockwell Automation Magazine, as Kevin talks about some of the jointly developed technologies that Cisco and Rockwell were previewing at the show. Read More »

A funny thing happened to me on the way to the fair. The Rockwell automation Fair that is.The Pilot comes on the intercom and says something like:
“Hi, it’s the captain here. I want to tell you that we can’t get the flaps into the right position. We need number 15 and we can only get to 14.” (or he said something like that). “We’ve tried a few times and it doesn’t want to move.”
So we (the passengers) are all thinking: “What does that mean – are we going down?” Most of us don’t pilot planes so we don’t know how serious the situation is. We all agreed in our seating row that it was ‘TMI’ – Too Much Information? I think he realized that, because he then said words to the effect of:

Automation Fair begins tomorrow!
Well, this is it folks. The big day has finally arrived and Automation Fair begins tomorrow. Our intrepid team has descended on Chicago at McCormick Place West and is gearing up to show all that Cisco has to offer at booth #239!
We hope you’ve enjoyed all of the social media activity over the last two weeks.
We’ve seen our social media strategy for Automation Fair. We’ve seen Peter Granger describe both Cisco’s presence and booth. We’ve seen Mark Wylie discuss machine builders. We’ve seen Paul Didier discuss convergence. And, of course, we’ve seen Kevin Davenport tell you why you must attend Automation Fair…or die.
To make things convenient for you to follow our social media activities, we’ve created a Storify instance which will aggregate all of our content creation into one spot. So follow this link to see all of our activity as it unfolds:
See you tomorrow at booth #239!

“Chicago, Chicago, I’ll show you around, You’ll Stay Around”, sings Frank Sinatra in the Fred Fisher song ‘Chicago’ published in 1922.
Well, come to the McCormick Center in Chicago, Illinois this week (16th and 17th November 2011) and let Cisco show you around Booth #239 where we’ll show you some cool demonstrations, and talk to you about your business and technical issues and how Cisco can help.
Remember that Automation Fair is one of the largest industrial Automation Events in the world. As I mentioned in my Cisco at Rockwell Automation Fair, Chicago Illinois, 16th-17th November 2011 blog we’ll be active this week both at our own booth and also at a four way A four-way Cisco, Rockwell, Panduit and Fluke booth showing the power of a broader partnership bringing all aspects of network convergence together.
