Automation Fair is a can’t miss conference for leading automation, controls, operations and IT professionals. This year’s event will be held in Houston on the 13th and 14th of this month at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
As in previous years, this year’s Automation Fair will again feature industry forums that present examples and concepts different industrial companies such oil and gas producers and manufacturers have used to increase their productivity and improve the efficiency of their business. As part of our strong strategic relationship with Rockwell Automation, Cisco will once again have a significant presence at this event.

What a great Automation Fair 2012!!
Thank you to everyone who visited Cisco’s booth and the joint EtherNet/IP Network Infrastructure booth shared by Cisco, Rockwell Automation, Panduit and Fluke Networks.
The Cisco team was excited to play a very active role in floor demonstrations, industry forums, educational sessions and Manufacturing Perspectives.
Here are just a few perspectives about this year’s Automation Fair from Cisco participants:
Maciej Kranz, VP and GM, Cisco Connected Industries Group “Looking back on last week’s very successful event, these are the points that immediately come to my mind:
- Great strategic alignment between Rockwell and Cisco, with a common vision and strategy
- Unified enterprise architecture from the plant to Data Center and cloud
- Security. Security. Security.
- Mobility, Collaboration and Cloud
- Very positive customer feedback, validating our joint Cisco and Rockwell Automation direction“
Paul Taylor, Business Development Manager for Rockwell Automation Alliance “Absolutely fantastic show! There was lots of interest and activity at all of the Cisco and Rockwell demonstrations. Customers recognized that together, we evaluate plant and enterprise-wide networking needs as a whole and then design solutions based on those all-encompassing considerations. Two demo stations that were especially buzzing with activity included Rockwell’s Micro Data Center (MDC), which houses a complete data-center infrastructure in a single box and Cisco Interactive Services Engine, partnered with X2O for real-time information sharing and collaboration”.

A recent blog by Sue Nolin discussed the EtherNet/IP Network Infrastructure on display in the joint partner booth at Automation Fair this week.
In this video Paul Didier, Cisco’s Solution Architect, tells us about the partners in that booth and how their combined technologies provide the core foundation for successful standard IP network deployments in a plant environment.

Chet Namboodri, Cisco’s Director of Global Industries for Manufacturing and Automotive and long-time Automation Fair participant shares his evolutionary perspective.
Cisco and IP have transformed the way we do business.
Consider how IP has unified communication services – phone calls, faxes, voicemail, web conferencing can all be delivered to any handset. IP lowers infrastructure costs by allowing voice and data to run over a single network.
In commerce, IP maximizes mobile user productivity by allowing businesses to support anytime, anywhere and any device access.
IP is now making an impact on industrial networking. It’s allowing businesses to maximize their operational efficiency and quickly adapt to change. Cisco and IP (Internet Protocol) are helping industrial customers develop robust, secure, future-ready and cost effective EtherNet/IP (Industrial Protocol) for their distributed network applications.
The evolution of Cisco’s impact on industrial networking is evident in how our participation has changed and grown at Rockwell’s Automation Fair. Read More »
