Making Room in Internet of Things (IoT) for the Mobile Operator:

So over the past year, there has been lots of press about the Internet of Things (IoT) and there has been information on the Connected Car and Telematics, Connected Transportation, Connected City, Connected Everything… But just how do we connect all of these devices? Magic? Why do we care?

Well according to Goldman Sachs there will be:

If we examine these “28 Billion reasons” a little deeper using the recent Cisco Global Cloud Index (GCI) we find that the average number of devices an Internet User uses will grow substantially by 2018. Read More »

Mobile Making It Happen at The Internet Of Things World Forum

So during last week’s IoT World Forum in Chicago more than the 1,500 Internet of Things (IoT) industry experts came together for the second annual conference. The IoT is opening up a world of real opportunities for service provider growth while rapidly transforming our communities, our cities, and our daily lives. Still as discussed during many of the sessions at the IoT World Forum, there are a number of questions that need to be answered to accelerate IoT globally.

  • #1 Concern is Security -- New way of thinking “don’t trust, verify”
  • #2 Faster Time-To-Market (TTM)
  • #3 Lower TCO
  • Another top reason was the need for improved asset utilization and risk management.

So during the break-out session the The Value Delivered by the Service Provider in IoT many attendees listened to service providers discuss how they are addressing these areas, and make money while doing it.

The Panel:

  • AT&T SVP, Kevin Petersen – AT&T Digital Life
  • Sprint Director, Mohammed Nasser – Connected City
  • Orange Deputy Director, François Duquesnoy — Orange Smart Cities & Territories

The Topics Covered:

Smart Home Security, Home Health Care, Home Automation, Energy, Connected Car, Telematics, Connected Agriculture, Connected Transportation, Asset Tracking, Cloud Delivery.

Mobile Making It Happen

Untitled

The Internet of Things (IoT) is opening up a world of real opportunities and rapidly transforming our communities, our cities and our daily lives. The second annual Internet of Things World Forum (IoTWF) in Chicago, October 14–16, 2014 marks a defining moment in the growth of the IoT.

While today most of the current IoT solutions do not have the ability to seamlessly connect and service the types of devices expected to be part of the 40 billion “things” forecasted to be activated by 2020. Yet mobile operators can uniquely deliver the connectivity (e.g., 2G / 3G / 4G / Wi-Fi / Small Cell) required to all devices anywhere, anytime, any place. Add in the mobile operator’s service delivery platform with the agility to activate thousands of devices at a time, the scalable cloud capacity for reduced OpEx, and a new application development platform enabling increased service creation velocity –and you’ve got a winning formula. So if you plan to attend this year’s IoT World Forum in Chicago make sure you sign up for the session the The Value Delivered by the Service Provider in IoT and listen to service providers discuss how to improve IoT experiences, increase business impact, and make money while doing it.

Cisco & Telecom New Zealand Test Cisco EPC with LTE-A Category 6

To think that the number of connected devices will grow to possibly 10 billion by 2018 with some forecasts as high as 40 billion connected devices by 2020, that is mindboggling. That means that there will be about 10 connected devices for every man, woman and child on the planet.

While most of the connected devices will only send a few characters and then go silent, people like you and I who own the mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, wearable devices) the need for speed is still very much a requirement.

The Test

So recently Telecom New Zealand performed a series of networking tests with Cisco leveraging LTE-A or LTE-Advanced. As a key LTE-A technology, carrier aggregation allows for full utilization of operators’ spectrum resources, empowering them to provide faster mobile broadband experiences including video conferencing, high-definition content transmission, high-speed video downloads, social networking and more.

My Journey through Cisco Live 2014: Premium Mobile Broadband Services Catch it All!

It seems as if Mobile World Congress just happened yesterday.  And on top of that, more recently, we just wrapped up Cisco Live at the end of May in San Francisco. This is the first time I attended and supported this great event with my team members Archana Goyal, Technical Marketing Engineer in MITG and Brian Walsh, Senior Marketing Manager in SP Mobility Marketing. We did not exactly know what to expect really before attending the event.  All we knew was based on the experience of our team members from the last two years at Cisco Live.  Their experiences indicated that there were not many service providers coming to this event, actually close to zero.

But at the end, it all turned out to be a great experience for us, starting from deciding the key story we wanted to tell to getting the demo completed for supporting the mobility story; especially, on the great team work we have exemplified within our team and among a much larger team. The fact that a number of Service Provider customers visited the Mobility booth was a great experience. If you ask us whether we want to do this again next year for Cisco Live, the answer is a resounding YES.

To make our story also appealing to Enterprise customers and nicely integrating with the main theme of IoT and Evolved Services Platform (ESP) at Cisco Live, we’ve decided to use Premium Mobile Broadband (PMB) service for Read More »
