Cisco UCS Delivers the best 2-socket Virtualized SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) Benchmark result in a Linux environment

On March 19th, 2013 Cisco announced the best 2-socket virtualized SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) Benchmark result in a Linux environment with the Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®) delivering high scalability and low latency in virtualized SAP Business Suite deployments.

Cisco’s benchmark result for the Cisco UCS B200 M3 Blade Server show support for up to 5530 concurrent users and a SAP Application Performance Standard (SAPS) score of 30,270 derived from the processing of 605,330 order line items per hour and 1,816,000 dialog steps per hour. This result demonstrates that a Cisco UCS B200 M3 Blade Server configured with a LSI 400-GB SLC WarpDrive can deliver high scalability and low latency in virtualized SAP Business Suite deployments.

The tested configuration consisted of a Cisco UCS chassis equipped with one Cisco UCS B200 M3 Blade Server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.4 on KVM. The server was configured with two 2.90-GHz, 8-core Intel Xeon processor E5-2690 CPUs and 256 GB of 1600-MHz memory. The blade server ran both the SAP Business Suite application software and the 64-bit Sybase ASE 15.7 in a single virtual machine. SAP Enhancement Package 5 for SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) 6.0 was used in this scenario. The Cisco UCS B200 M3 Blade Server recorded the best two-way virtualized SAP SD Benchmark result on SAP Enhancement Package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 and Sybase ASE 15.7. In the test, 5530 SAP SD Benchmark users were supported while a consistent application response of less than one second was maintained.

Cisco Announces Four World-record Oracle E-Business Suite Performance Results on Cisco UCS

Cisco continues a tradition of enterprise application performance leadership with four new world records on Oracle E-Business Suite benchmarks, demonstrating that Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®) powers business-critical software better than any other server vendor.

In four of the Oracle E-Business Suite Standard Benchmarks, the Cisco UCS B200 M3 Blade Server delivered the best performance of any server, regardless of configuration or number of processor cores.

The benchmarks were run in a two-tier configuration with a single Cisco UCS B200 M3 Blade Server hosting both the database and the application server instances, all running on a single Oracle Linux image.

Cisco Announces Industry-Leading TPC-C with Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition One on Cisco UCS!

Right before the recently concluded  Oracle Open World 2012., Cisco announced world-record  TPC-C performance with Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition demonstrating continuing industry leadership for database performance with the Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®).

The tested configuration consisted of a Cisco UCS 240 M3 equipped with two Intel Xeon processors E5-2690 at 2.9 GHz with 768 GB of main memory. The server ran Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition One and Oracle Linux with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2. The client tier consisted of two Cisco UCS C200 M2 servers. The storage system consisted of two Violin 6000 series arrays.

World-record TPC-C Result on Cisco UCS C240 M3 Rack Server: Fastest Two-Socket Database Server

Cisco’s world-record Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) result of 1,609,186 transactions per minute in the TPC-C benchmark (tpmC), with a price-to-performance ratio of US$0.47 per tpmC ($/tpmC), in combination with Oracle Database, delivered world-record performance for 2-socket servers at lower cost than the competition.

  • Better Performance at Lower Cost: The 2-socket Cisco UCS® C240 M3 Rack Server achieved 1,609,186 transactions per minute in the TPC-C benchmark (tpmC), with a price-to-performance ratio of US$0.47 per tpmC ($/tpmC).
  • Faster and cheaper than competition: Cisco’s results are 34 percent faster and the cost is 32 percent less than for IBM DB2 running on a 2-processor IBM POWER7 system . The results are 7 percent faster and the cost is 11 percent less than for a 2-socket IBM Flex System x240 running IBM DB2

Cisco UCS Establishes #1 Overall VMmark Score with World-record-setting 8-node VMware VMmark 2.1 Benchmark Result

Cisco continues its cloud computing performance leadership with the announcement of Industry’s First VMware vSphere 5.1 Benchmark Result published on September 5th 2012.

With this world-record-setting 8-node VMware VMmark 2.1 score of 42.79@36 tiles, Cisco UCS is best in performance,  best in scalability, and the result is the first to incorporate VMware vSphere 5.1—all critical contributors to effective cloud computing environments.

UCS has established many records for Cisco and for the industry with this benchmark result.

  • Cisco is best in performance, with a result more than double HP’s best result of 18.27@18 tiles.
  • Cisco is best in scalability, outperforming Fujitsu’s result of 36.07@36 tiles by more than 18 percent.
  • The Cisco UCS results show that eight 2-socket Cisco UCS B200 M3 servers outperform four 4-socket Fujitsu servers, contradicting the conventional wisdom that vertical scaling outperforms horizontal scaling.
