Broadcast Recap: Tapping the SMB Opportunity in the Cloud

July 20, 2011 at 5:16 pm PST

Yesterday, fellow Channels blogger Alex Krasne hosted a live Channels Chat video broadcast called Tapping the SMB Opportunity in the Cloud: An Interactive Discussion for Service Providers.

During the broadcast, Steve Hilton, Principal Analyst at Analysys Mason, and Ellen Berlan, Director, Global Service Provider SMB at Cisco shared cloud trends and offered advice on how Service Providers can capitalize on the growing market within SMBs. Steve also offered several recommendations, from how Service Providers need to approach the growing cloud market, to the ways in which Service Providers can launch a cloud offering.

Didn’t get a chance to catch the broadcast live? Here’s a replay. (You can also watch the replay on our Ustream page or on the Channels Facebook Page.)

For those of you who prefer to read about the broadcast, we have a text summary below with timestamps to identify key topics. We also have Ellen and Steve’s answers to audience questions submitted via Twitter. Read More »

Cisco Live Wrap-Up: Jokes from William Shatner, a Video Recap, and More

July 15, 2011 at 9:16 am PST

Cisco Live 2011 ended with sounds of side-splitting laughter during the closing keynote on Thursday. Cisco SVP Carlos Dominguez sat down for an intimate chat (or as intimate as it could be with 15,000 onsite attendees watching) with Star Trek’s Captain Kirk, otherwise known as actor William Shatner.

Over the hour, Shatner shared his accomplishments, current projects, and thoughts on reinvention, creativity, change, and collaboration – driving themes that we also see here at Cisco. He also answered questions from Cisco Live 2011 attendees. (In response to one attendee’s question, he said yes, it is true that he cannot do the Vulcan salute.)

Want a peek into all (well, almost all) that went on this past week in Vegas? Here’s our video recap.

And keep reading for some of our favorite quotes from Shatner’s closing keynote, along with our favorite tweets, blogs of note, news announcements, and more from the past week. Read More »

Padmasree Warrior at Cisco Live: Cisco Next-Generation Networks are Critical in Driving Innovation

We’ve seen lots here at Cisco Live so far—great demos from partners of cloud computing at work, Chairman and CEO John Chambers’ keynote address highlighting Cisco’s strength in IT, and a telehealth demo showing the power of Cisco HealthPresence. During today’s keynote presentation from CTO Padmasree Warrior and CIO Rebecca Jacoby, live and virtual attendees got the chance to see real-world examples of how Cisco technology is driving innovation now through the 21st century.

Padma kicked off her talk with a few mind-boggling stats—did you know that currently 13 billion devices connect to the network? That equals two devices for every person on earth. That number is expected to grow to 50 billion devices, meaning each of us will own six. (I guess that means it’s ok if I lose my phone, I can always grab my tablet!)

And speaking of tablets, Padma said that by the end of her talk, she estimates that over 6000 tablets will have been sold. That’s a lot of devices that rely on the network—so how is Cisco is responding to the demand?

It’s Hot in Las Vegas, But All About Cloud in the Cloud Partner Pavilion

July 13, 2011 at 10:15 am PST

It’s 100+ degrees (that’s almost 40 degrees Celcius) in Las Vegas without a cloud in the sky, so you might imagine that lounging in an air-conditioned casino would be ideal for most folks. But for the techies attending Cisco Live this week, the Cloud Partner Pavilion was the coolest place to hang out.

I walked through the Pavilion and chatted with a number of Cisco partners who were showing off cloud solutions, products, a variety of services for customers as well as some B2B and white label services for partners, too.

Many thanks to the many Cisco partners who chatted with us and we look forward to catching up with as many as we can this week.

Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers also dropped by to talk with partners. We’ve got photos from his visit and more about the partners in the Cloud Partner Pavilion.

There was also some cloud-related news that hit the wire this morning.

John Chambers at Cisco Live 2011: Cisco Will Drive the Future of Networking

July 12, 2011 at 5:15 pm PST

Cisco Live 2011 officially kicked off today in true Las Vegas style. As conference attendees waited for Cisco SVP Carlos Dominguez to give the welcome address, flash mobbers disguised as event attendees suddenly arose from their seats and began a choreographed dance to the Black Eyed Peas’ hit “I Gotta Feeling.” and the Beatles song “All Together Now.”

Carlos then entered the stage and welcomed the staggering number of attendees: 15,000+ live attendees and 40,000+ virtual attendees across 150+ countries.

Then it was Chairman and CEO John Chambers’ turn to address attendees. Keeping in line with recent announcements, John agreed that there was a need to simplify operations at Cisco to make it easier for customers and partners to do business with us and he promised that changes would be coming soon.

He then dove into Cisco’s five main priorities: Read More »
