Cisco Partner Summit Day 1: Being Bold

MVPS

It was a packed house this morning at the Palais de congrès de Montreal as Bruce Klein kicked off Cisco Partner Summit 2015. It has been a full day of announcements and breakout session, so as always, take a look at our recap video to get a taste of what today was like in Canada.

John Chambers

Being Bold is what this year’s Partner Summit is all about and when Bruce welcomed John to the stage, John wasted no time in announcing that Cisco is going to be bolder than ever.

“There is a transformation that’s going to digitize governments, companies and countries. Cisco has the ability to lead here. I truly think this next year is an inflection point where every company starts to become a digital company. If companies don’t change, they are going to be left behind, because either you disrupt, or you’re going to get disrupted,” John said. Read More »

Cisco Partner Summit 2015 – Be Bold, Be Innovative, Be Profitable

Bonjour de Montréal! I’m excited to officially kick off Cisco Partner Summit 2015. I just stepped off the stage at the Palais des Congrès where John Chambers and I spent the past hour updating our 2,200 partners here on the ground and 7,500 virtual attendees on our partner initiatives for the year to come.

But it’s impossible for us to look forward without first taking a look back. In the past year, you’ve heard me talk a lot about the Cisco Partner Ecosystem—and with good reason. At Cisco Partner Summit 2014, we put a firm stake in the ground with regard to how we view partnering and how, inevitably, the Internet of Everything (IoE) is compelling us all to think about new and different partner types—whether independent software vendors (ISVs), cloud providers, IoE and IoT partners, or others.

Many believe that these partner types can’t work together—that even some are competitors. But we’ve found the opposite to be true; while others in the industry make moves to split their partner programs to accommodate individual partner types, we know that we can do more together. We can ‘Be Bold’ together.

Embracing Data & Analytics in the IoT with Our Partners

Massive amounts of data are being created in new places. A Boeing 787 creates half a terabyte of data per flight. An offshore oil well can create up to 10 terabytes in just 24 hours. These are examples of the Internet of Things (IoT). Within the IoT, a huge volume of these non-traditional devices (i.e. things) are being connected by the network.

Imagine if these ‘things’ could talk.

What could they tell us about safety, operational efficiency, and interactions with people using this technology? Well….these things can talk. In fact, they are talking all the time through the large volumes of data they produce. In order to utilize this data to empower business decision-making, we need to understand it. That is where analytics come in. Simply put, analytics is using software to look for patterns in large volumes of data. Patterns help you understand some aspect of your business, so you can make better decisions to achieve the desired outcome.
