If you had a chance to join us at Cisco Live Milan last month, thank you very much for making this another exciting event for all of us. If you missed out being there in person, let me give you a brief summary of the highlights. Milan is the main industrial, commercial, and financial center of Italy and a leading global city where the EXPO 2015 will take place. What could be better than such a city to host the Cisco Live 2015 event! It proved to be fertile grounds for driving innovations with our service provider customers and partners. Our exhibition was structured to tell the story of the Open Network Strategy by presenting over 15 technology and business demos. We also brought the newest routers and switches with us to showcase the latest innovations that service providers can start deploying today. Last but not least we have teamed up with the DevNet area where attendees could get their hands on developing applications and learning on virtualization, orchestration, and automation. Our service provider booth of the Cisco Campus in the World of Solutions was very busy: “standing room only” and so many insightful conversations were conversations around the NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) and the SDN (Software Defined Networks), as pillars for delivering cloud services and an automated networking handling respectively, have matured significantly and are ready for prime time. Many years ago, when Cisco first began preaching the virtues of network intelligence, only the ardent technophiles – the customers we love the most – seemed to pay close attention.
How times have changed.
The continuing explosion in IP traffic and the proliferation of connected devices and applications is dramatically transforming network traffic patterns, making network intelligence more important than ever.

- ACG’s 1Q2012 market share report was recently released, and Cisco grew its No. 1 position in the edge and core routing segments: Cisco has gained core routing market share in seven straight quarters (and 12 of the last 13 quarters), and edge routing market share four of the last five quarters.
Consider this: The CRS-3 has achieved $1 billion in total orders, with nearly 200 customers and almost 3,000 systems shipped, in just a year and a half. In total, Cisco has over 460 total CRS customers.
Cisco’s architectural approach enables the best delivery of video and mobility through leveraging the network intersection points of the cloud, network, and client. This architectural approach has given Cisco the ability to play many roles in the network, giving us access to where all the intelligence resides. No other company can compare to the amount of presence and intelligence we have in the network.
Innovations such as nV (network virtualization) technology, which intelligently blends the network edge, aggregation and access layers into a single ASR 9000 system, deliver up to 70 percent operational expense savings, increase network capacities and accelerate IPv6 service deployments. Therefore we’re addressing our customer’s most important business concerns by:
- Lowering capex through simplifying their network
- Lowering opex through scaling their network for operational efficiencies
- Increasing revenue through enabling them to leverage network intelligence

In my 15 years with Cisco, our company has never been more focused on innovation in our core business.
This renewed focus continues to pay off: Cisco has gained core routing market share in five straight quarters and edge routing market share three quarters in a row.
ACG’s 3Q11 market share report was just released, and Cisco remains No. 1 in the edge and core routing segments: Cisco gained 3.4 percent share in edge routing and 2.5 percent share in core routing (3.3 percent overall), quarter over quarter.

Cisco nV intelligently blends the network edge, aggregation and access layers into a single ASR 9000 system, to deliver up to 70 percent operational expense savings, increase network capacity to an industry-leading 96 Tbps and accelerate IPv6 services.
Technologies like this are critical to delivering superior network capacity and a simpler way for our customers to enable the “Zettabyte Era.” Consider that the total amount of global Internet traffic will quadruple by 2015 and reach 966 exabytes per year according to our research. The projected increase of Internet traffic between 2014 and 2015 alone is 200 exabytes, which is greater than the total amount of Internet Protocol traffic generated globally in 2010.

Just two months ago, we introduced the ASR 9000 System, a 96 Tbps system featuring our new Network Virtualization Technology that allows Service Providers to simplify operations while improving service delivery. The system, with its multi-dimensional scalability, increased service velocity and carrier-class reliability, has been a huge success with service providers.
