Would you buy a car from a dealership where none of the salesmen knew how to drive? Or order prime rib at a restaurant where the chef was a strict vegetarian? What about when it comes to your customer’s network? Are you willing to risk installing products that you don’t have firsthand experience with? I’m guessing the answer is “no.”
When making purchases, big or small, customers want to have confidence that the company they partner with has in-depth knowledge and can stand behind the products they sell. Consider Amy Smith, Director of Collaboration at Nexus IS and a Cisco Gold Certified Partner. She’s committed to live by her company’s marketing motto: “Know it, use it, sell it.”
This was the case when Nexus IS decided to add Cisco’s Hosted Collaboration Solution (HCS) — an offering that allows partners to provide a wide range of Cisco collaboration applications to their customers as a subscriber-based service—to its portfolio. Their first step was to go the wholesale route and participate in Neutral Tandem’s proof-of-concept trial. This was an easy decision, since Nexus IS always tests new products on its own network before installing them on a customer’s network. It’s all about fully understanding, embracing, and discovering best practices of a product before offering it for sale.
Think HCS would be a great addition to your list of offerings?

While some of us are fortunate enough to have our basic needs covered and can focus on the joys of the holidays, there’s no denying that there are so many others who don’t even have that and could use a little bit of help.
At Cisco, we’ve partnered with several non-profit organizations to provide resources and services to those in need. Some of the organizations include: NetHope, Community Voice Mail, Habitat for Humanity International, Tech Soup Global, and St. Bernard Project. Whether it’s donating through time, money, or sweat like the Partner Summit 2011 team did in the 9th ward in New Orleans, giving back selflessly is a reward in and of itself.
We knew we couldn’t be the only ones who felt passionate about giving back. So, we set out to learn how our partners are giving back this holiday season.
Force 3 Vice President of Marketing Krissy Edell Kelley tells us on our Facebook page that they are supporting Toys for Tots, a charity that “delivers, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
Got Mo? Mo what? Moustache that is! For the month of Movember (the month formerly known as November) Dimension Data supports a moustache growing charity event that raises funds and awareness for men’s health issues. Check out the Mo Bros of Dimension Data.
Not only have our partners found ways to give back during this holiday season, they also found ways to give back throughout the year. See how our partners gave back this year while having a bit of fun. Read More »

Guess what, partners: We’ve been reading your blogs, perusing your Facebook pages, and scanning your Twitter feeds to find out what you’ve been up to this summer. (Everything we saw was rated G, don’t worry!)
So what have we found? We’ve discovered that many of you are doing some really cool things. For instance, some of you have scored really interesting customer wins, while others have snagged celebrities to star in your ads, or you’re working on raising money for charity. We unearthed so many diverse and interesting tidbits that we’ve decided that periodically here on the blog we’ll showcase the cool stuff that our partners are up to. Here’s a roundup of what just some of you are doing.
Nexus IS posted a video on their Facebook page about their customer win with Global Cash Access (GCA). (We wrote about their win here on the blog, too.) The video features interviews with GCA’s CEO and VP of IT discussing how Nexus impacted and improved their business.
Meanwhile, Force 3 posted a news roundup video on their Facebook page called Great News, which highlights recent goings-on at the company. Great work, guys!

Any trip to Las Vegas would be incomplete without at least one pull of the lever on a slot machine—after all, gaming forms the core of the Las Vegas experience. But what about all that money changing hands? It has to be managed by someone. That someone is Global Cash Access (GCA), which processes US$24 million per day globally, making it the second-largest transaction processor in the world.
GCA’s products and services provide gaming patrons access to cash through a variety of methods, including ATM cash withdrawals, point-of-sale debit card transactions, credit card cash advances, and money transfers. While GCA has a thriving business, it had a problem on its hands—an aging infrastructure. Its network had originally been designed to be highly secure, but its processes were completely manual. The company had 2000 devices deployed in 800 locations worldwide, and provisioning and management was a nightmare. Their system often required at least two engineers and many days to add a new server, application, or customer to the network.
Of course, where there’s a network problem, Cisco partners are there to help. Cisco Gold Partner Nexus IS assisted in planning, designing, and implementing a new network and data center for GCA, while World Wide Technology, also a Cisco Gold Certified Partner, provided planning, design, and implementation for the data center elements of GCA’s infrastructure.
When I was at Cisco Live in Vegas, I got the chance to chat with Dave Elsner, VP of Sales and Marketing at Nexus IS. He filled me in on the process of planning GCA’s new data center, equipment deployed, and what’s in store for the future.
Keep reading to get more details on the new data center, its benefits, and what’s in store for GCA. Read More »
