Eighteen months ago, when the original Apple iPad was announced, I posted a blog here posing a simple question: “Apple iPad, in the enterprise?” The obvious answer, to me at least, was a resounding “Yes”. Today, it seems that professionals and employers alike would agree. The former like to bring and operate their own devices at work, and the latter are buying these devices to boost employee productivity.

This show has us going into Network Management again which is always of more interest than we initially projected -- and, like we do with all our shows, we made an attempt at a theme…something we felt would resonate with our technically inclined audience. Cisco just introduced a new performance management solution that helps enable service providers to proactively manage their next-generation networks, including service assurance and capacity planning. Cisco Prime™ Performance Manager complements an existing set of network management tools or works completely as a standalone solution. Cisco Active Network Abstraction (ANA) customers like the easy integration and the ability to access service and element performance information from the topology views.
Cisco Prime Performance Manager provides more than 200 pre-generated reports on a wide range of technologies. These reports help operators and network planners answer those questions that keep you up at night; questions such as which devices are over-utilized, what backhaul links are congested, and which services have poor quality or response time. With dashboard views showing network-level availability and utilization reports, operators can quickly identify the most pressing issues impacting the network. Pre-generated reports provide deep visibility into such areas as application traffic, availability of services and devices, IP quality of service, IP protocols, IP service level agreements, resource utilization, and transport statistics.
I recently staffed the Cisco booth at Interop, Las Vegas where we introduced Cisco Prime for Enterprise, a new network management strategy and product portfolio. I had buttons made that said “Ask Me About Cisco Prime for Enterprise” to help facilitate questions and because I’m a tech marketing geek who likes to wear buttons.
Interop was my first tradeshow since I transitioned to Cisco network management from the Cisco wireless/mobility team where I recently led WLAN management marketing. I’ve always believed in the value of network management – especially when it’s done right. As I talked with Interop attendees, two questions kept repeating:

Are you sure Cisco has an innovative network management solution – Really? As of when?
