So, I wrapped up CiscoLive Day 1 with a chance to catch up at the end of the day with Fred Nix of EMC (@NixFred) and Vaughn Stewart of NetApp (@vStewed). While the conversation covered a number of topics, not all them appropriate for a corporate blog, we did commit this part of the conversation to tape. I think this segment highlights a couple of things. First, how our ecosystem of data center partners is second to none–these guys are rock stars and they represent equally cool companies. Second, I think this really shows how much IT has evolved and the lines have blurred so that folks like EMC and NetApp are able move beyond their storage roots and deliver comprehensive infrastructure solutions to our customers through their vBlock and FlexPod offerings, respectively.
It is Cisco Live 2012, and the San Diego Convention Center is abuzz with excitement and activity, as customers throng to the World of Solutions, on this Monday afternoon, June 11. Having recently joined the Cisco VXI solutions marketing team, I am eager to check out all the VXI demos live on the show floor. Let’s pick up action with the Desktop Virtualization demo in the Cisco Unified Data Center (UDC) booth. Read More »
Cisco Live 2012 is a a very busy and vibrant event – Amongst our partners , NetApp is playing this year a specific role to make sure that our attendees have the best experience ever .
I asked NetApp Vaughn Stewart (@vStewed) , Director for Cloud Computing and Virtualization at NetApp, and an avid blogger to tell us a little bit more about NetApp participation at Cisco Live 2012
“I am here in the beautiful San Diego to support the NetApp team and activities at Cisco Live 2012. This year’s event features the largest number of joint Cisco and NetApp solutions in our history! I expect Cisco Live attendees will be impressed with the depth and breadth of our offerings.
When I was asked to blog on what we have in store for the event I thought they were asking me to write another book! Honestly, I can’t even cover the volume of FlexPod activity in a single post. With that said, allow me to share with you a few items I find truly compelling.
FlexPod Powers the NOC at Cisco Live
This year’s Cisco Live network infrastructure is expected to support over 15,000 users with 35,000 devices and is expected to transfer over 3 terabytes of Internet traffic. Powering the Network Operations Center (NOC) that provides these services is a FlexPod. This is the second year that a FlexPod has powered the NOC at Cisco Live!
You can’t miss the NOC, it’s the glass walled datacenter locate adjacent to the World of Solutions’ entrance. Stop in and meet the NOC engineers; they can discuss the number of Cisco technologies and solutions running on the FlexPod. For those who want to learn even more, the Cisco Live NOC is featured in session BRKNMS-1035 on Thursday at 3:30 in ballroom 6D.

Do I still need to introduce Flexpod, the integrated stack from Cisco, NetApp and VMware ? We wrote in this blog several times about this solution , which is obviously pretty successful.
NetApp, like EMC and HDS , is a very good partner of Cisco Data Center. That’s why I strongly encourage you when going to Cisco Live next week in San Diego to visit NetApp booth (#826) , and attend the theater presentation (Tuesday 6:45 pm PST)dedicated to Flexpod on Cisco booth .
Of course Flexpod is not the only integrated stacks that Cisco is providing on the market –Vblock from VCE is another example. But we have reasons to believe that Flexpod is definitely a very good solution and approach for converged infrastructure and private cloud deployment in a mission critical application environment . Recently we wrote about Flexpod with Microsoft private cloud, and even more recently about Flexpod and Citrix desktop virtualization.
At SAPPHIRE 2012, I asked Cisco VP Server Access and Virtualization Satinder Sethi , and NetApp VP Thomas Stanley Global Alliances and System Integrators, to tell us what benefits this pre-integrated unified architecture is bringing to the SAP customers.
As a proof point of the business impact of Flexpod, I invite you to watch what Waltz executives have to say about the benefits of this solution.
Established in 1985, the Walz Group is a leading provider of critical communications and compliance solutions – This solution allow the IT organization to focus on improving products and services instead of infrastructure support.
The second day at SAPPHIRE 2012 has been as intense as the first day – After interviewing one of the first UCS customer (Monsanto) about the deployment of SAP applications , I did a round of videos with EMC, NetApp and Cisco executives to measure our presence in this market and our collaboration with key players. Stay tuned for the videos on integrated stacks (Vblock with EMC, Flexpod with NetApp) .
I met Cisco VP Marketing, Data Center and Cloud , Giuliano Di Vitantonio, who shared why Cisco is at Sapphire 2012 , and what specifically Cisco and SAP are working on together – Legitimate questions from some of our visitors, as Cisco has a great image as a network provider, but is still building the recognition as a server and software powerhouse. Take the time to watch this short video to appreciate the breadth of the collaboration and understand why SAP is so interested in deepening this partnership.
Talking about experts . If you are in Orlando today don’t forget
