A new year means new users and new devices. More devices means more network crowding. Mobile users demand bandwidth and speed, while the network is increasingly overwhelmed by the sheer number of devices. The networks of today and tomorrow have to be ready for high client density environments.
That’s why we’ve developed the Cisco High Density Experience (HDX). I announced HDX in a blog last October with a high level look at Cisco’s answer to handling high client density environments. Each feature in the HDX solution was designed specifically to alleviate the introduction of more clients, more bandwidth hungry applications to provide an unparalleled user experience.
Starting tomorrow we’ll kick off an HDX blog series to dive deep into the four key features that come with HDX:
- January 8: CleanAir
- January 13: Turbo Performance
- January 27: ClientLink 3.0
- February 10: Optimized Roaming

It’s the holiday season, and ’tis the season for giving!
Since one-third of donations occur in the month of December (source: Network for Good, Chronicle of Philanthropy), digital plays an increasing role in expanding the reach of requests for donations, in creating a propensity to give, and in delivering connected experiences that even themselves provide community benefit.
Known as ‘digital philanthropy,’ more and more donations are digital and utilizing mobile, social media, web and video. Growth of online donating has increased to 11.8% year-over-year, while overall giving increased 3.8% (source: Blackbaud, Charitable Giving Report: How Nonprofit Fundraising Performed in 2012, February 2013).
Easy Giving via Text Message
Donations come in all sizes and packages. The one we often hear about most is donating money via text message. To donate for typhoon relief in the Philippines via the Salvation Army, for example, all you need to do is text TYPHOON to 80888. And with just a click or two you’ve made a contribution. Quick, simple and immediate.

Deloitte’s 2013 Annual Holiday survey came out with some staggering statistics:
- Nearly 7 in 10 shoppers will use their smartphones and tablets to shop this holiday season.
- Nearly half of all shoppers will use social media to assist in shopping.
- 73% of shoppers will be influenced by coupons and promotional offers.
Retailers both online and in-store can no longer ignore the power of mobile technology and social media influence with shoppers. Shoppers using mobile devices inside stores are actually more likely to make a purchase when being presented with the right information. In fact, this isn’t only true for retailers, but across all industries. Whether it’s guests, visitors, patients or passengers, there’s a real opportunity for businesses to make an impression via the mobile device.
Today I am happy to announce our latest Cisco Wireless Software Release 7.6. Many features in Release 7.6 were designed specifically to enable our customers to take advantage of the latest mobile trends. Here are some of the highlights:
