The Power Of Partnering: Microsoft Recognizes FlexPod Partner Innovation

Cisco is proud to celebrate its five years of partnering with NetApp in delivering unprecedented value to customers with the FlexPod integrated infrastructure solutions. The power of partnering with NetApp was further validated when Cisco and our partners were recently recognized as Microsoft Partners of the Year in two categories with integrated solutions built on FlexPod.

First, Cisco, NetApp and Dimension Data received Microsoft’s Partner of the Year Award in the Modern Data Center, Customer Focus, category for the work in creating the Zero Touch solution at ING Direct. Cisco, NetApp, Microsoft and Dimension Data teamed to create a fully integrated solution that enables ING DIRECT to meet its customers’ online needs by speeding the release of new products to market and never having to take any banking application down ever again. The solution implemented was Microsoft Private Cloud on FlexPod—a computing, networking, and storage solution developed by Cisco and NetApp.

Additionally, Cisco partner, Scalability Experts, was named the Microsoft Data Platform Partner of the Year for the amazing results attained with the SQL Server 2014 on FlexPod at Iforium.  For example, after testing up to 50,000 concurrent users of Iforium with the Flexpod Data Center for Microsoft Private Cloud, Scalability Experts found 208% faster transaction response times and 250% faster page response times which are impressive results especially when considering that a few millisecond differences in response times can mean the gain or loss of millions of dollars

Microsoft Patch Tuesday – October 2015

Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday has arrived. Today, Microsoft has released their monthly set of security bulletins designed to address security vulnerabilities within their products. This month’s release is fairly light with a total of 6 bulletins released addressing 33 vulnerabilities. Half of the bulletins are rated “Critical” and address vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, JScript/VBScript, and the Windows Shell. The other half of the bulletins are rated “Important” and address vulnerabilities in Edge, Office, and the Windows Kernel.

Bulletins Rated Critical

MS15-106, MS15-108, are MS15-109 are rated Critical in this month’s release.

MS15-106 is this month’s Internet Explorer security bulletin for versions 7 through 11. In total, 14 vulnerabilities were addressed with most of them being memory corruption conditions that could allow arbitrary code execution.  This bulletin also addresses 2 memory corruption flaws and 2 information disclosure flaw in the JScript/VBScript scripting engine for Internet Explorer versions 8 through 11 only. Users and organizations that currently use Internet Explorer 7 or who do not have Internet Explorer installed will need to install MS15-108 to address the vulnerabilities in the VBScript/JScript scripting engine. Microsoft Patch Tuesday – September 2015

Today, Microsoft has released their monthly set of security bulletins designed to address security vulnerabilities within their products. This month’s release sees a total of 12 bulletins released which address 55 CVEs. Five bulletins are rated “Critical” this month and address vulnerabilities in Edge, Graphics Component, Internet Explorer, Journal, and Office. The other seven bulletins are rated “Important” and address vulnerabilities in the .NET Framework, Active Directory, Exchange, Hyper-V, Media Center, Skype for Business, and Task Management.

A Strong Partnership: Cisco and Microsoft

Cisco continues to develop their partnership with Microsoft becoming a critical component of the Microsoft Data Centers across the globe. 80% of the data centers around the globe already include Cisco networking switches and routers. More and more of these same Data Centers are also making the switch to Cisco UCS server platforms.  There are many advantages to using Cisco UCS as your server platform. IDC recently competed a study interviewing many Cisco UCS installed customers and determined that by installing your application on a Cisco UCS server platform, those customers will gain the following business benefits.

Microsoft Internet Explorer Out of Band Advisory

Today an out of band advisory was released by Microsoft to address CVE-2015-2502. This vulnerability is addressed by MS15-093.

MS15-093 address a memory corruption vulnerability in Internet Explorer versions 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. This affects all currently supported versions of Windows, including Windows 10.

This advisory is rated critical. An attacker can craft a web page designed to exploit this vulnerability and lure a user into visiting it.  The compromise will result in remote code execution at the permission level of the affected user. The use of proper user access controls can limit the severity of the compromise.

As with most out of band releases, it has been reported that this attack is being exploited in the wild. Users should patch immediately.
