Rockwell Automation Fair is only a few weeks away!
Automation Fair is Rockwell Automation’s largest user conference and tradeshow. In 2011, it will be held at the McCormick Convention Center, Chicago, from November 15th-17th. Over 13,000 attendees are expected to attend this annual showcase of manufacturing solutions. The event is free for attendees.
We in Cisco Manufacturing are extremely excited about our presence and booth at Rockwell Automation Fair (RAF). The technologies and solutions we will demonstrating will be focused on the collaboration, security, and network convergence we are bringing to the production environment.

Finally, some good news. Amidst the standard fare of predictions of the inevitable decline and fall of US manufacturing, an interesting and encouraging 2011 report has been authored by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) called “Made in America, Again.”
According to the report, “Manufacturing is expected to return to America as China’s rising labor costs erase most savings from offshoring.” As US states become cheaper locations to manufacture goods compared to other developed countries, the report suggests that by 2015 manufacturing in some parts of the US will be just as economical as manufacturing in China.
Now here is an interesting example of using social media to deliver personalized marketing. KLM airlines, which has made the claim that they “will answer every tweet in person within the hour day and night,” created this viral video to demonstrate their commitment to this effort. Read More »
The challenges facing the US manufacturing industry are varied and well-known: foreign competition, regulatory and environmental concerns, and a decline in STEM education, to name a few.
Most of what we hear in the news is a continual stream of reminders of these challenges from politicians, pundits, etc. Everyone seems to acknowledge this is a problem, but what are we going to do about it?
