We’re headlong into the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, and if you’re like us, it’s been an exciting scramble getting here. This year’s games feature an unprecedented level of consumer access – not just some of the events, but all of them, live and via replay, on TVs, tablets, and other connected screens.
In London, we’re set up in our own “Cisco House,” where we are showcasing next-generation transformational technologies and solutions. In particular, visitors are getting to experience the Olympics on TVs, tablets, and smartphones through our Videoscape solution.
We are also very excited about working with NBC again for what is our third Olympics. NBC has Read More »

As you can well imagine, Cisco is excited and proud to be the Official Network Infrastructure supporter to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. But you know what else we’re proud of? Cisco House, our 20,000-square-foot connected business showcase. It’s taking our customers to new heights—literally. And our technology partners are central to its success.
Throughout the games, customers are touring the “house,” which is perched above the entrance to Olympic Park. We’re engaging visitors with a multi-media, business transformation journey, where Cisco is uniquely relevant in a landscape where organizations, cities, and even entire countries are transforming to thrive in an increasingly connected world.
And the message is coming through loud and clear. It’s not just what Cisco makes. It’s what we make possible. And sharing this not-so-futuristic story wouldn’t be possible without the help of our incredible technology partners.
So hats off to Citrix, EMC, Intel, SAP, and Schneider Electric. They’re playing an invaluable role as we highlight a portfolio of customer- and public-facing technologies such as Videoscape, Stadium Vision, iServices, and my personal favorite, the Virtual Shopper experience. That’s worth its weight in ‘Gold.’ Read More »

London 2012 is here, schools are out and I’m reflecting on the successes of a very popular Games initiative. Cisco’s promotion of STEM skills – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – has just reached a fantastic conclusion with lots to celebrate.
Two years ago, we set out to use the Games to focus and sharpen young people’s STEM skills. We wanted to inspire budding scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, designers and tomorrow’s big thing. We knew students seeking to further their studies in STEM-based subjects could be boosted with a little imagination and creative thinking – plus some incentives. The debate continues, as the BBC reports a call for immediate action to boost student numbers in science, technology, engineering and maths.

During my recent visit to London, while at the Cisco House — way up on its perch above the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre, I had the opportunity to look out across the huge Olympic Park in amazement. It’s an experience that I’ll never forget — for as long as I live.
Most visitors to the Olympic Park will immediately notice the cluster of majestic sports arenas and a plethora of newly planted landscaping. Besides the obvious, there’s the potential for it to become so much more. This community regeneration project could be the basis for a socioeconomic metamorphosis in East London – a very welcomed new beginning.
