Our team recently joined other industry experts at HITEC 2013, the world’s largest hospitality technology show. Hot topics discussed at the show included the next generation guest, including BYOC (bring your own content), social media, Wi-Fi services, data security, mobility and more. But one topic stood out among the others – the next big innovation cycle for hoteliers.
So what is the next big innovation cycle for hoteliers?
The one thing about innovation in hotels that stands out to me right now is that it’s almost a constant two-way dialogue between the hotel and guest. When we leverage the network beyond just connecting to the Internet, the possibilities are nearly endless. This two-way dialogue creates an opportunity to better serve customer needs. And if we pay attention to guests’ dialogue and understand their daily physical and digital habits and desires, there is no more assuming what those needs are. Orlando 2013 being Cisco Live’s largest event yet with over 20000 delegates was where CMX was shown to be a very key part of Cisco’s strategic business solutions offering and was shown right throughout the show from Key note addresses to booth demos, to focussed presentations to whisper suites even to deep customer on to one discussions.
Cisco Chairman & CEO, John Chambers in his keynote address to all the assembled delegates both live and via video link, where he outlined the the vision for tomorrow by exploring new opportunities and the amazing things that can happen when you connect the previously unconnected, demo’ed the key component that CMX plays in delivering enormous insights and business value to the retail industry.
Taking things a little deeper and more specific in the Hospitality Industry, SVP Enterprise Networking Group, Rob Soderbery in his Keynote, demonstrated a very compelling scenario using CMX to deliver incredible guest experience in a hotel. As part of Cisco Live! last week, Cisco hosted a Connected Mobile Experiences Dinner last night with senior executives of some of our customers and partners in Shula’s Steak house at the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando. One of the key points of the night was the presentation by Chet Patel, Director of IT at the Swan and Dolphin.
Chet discussed how Cisco’s Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX) solution has been deployed at the resort and the insights and benefits they are starting to derive already. The resorts executive business management are starting to get heavily engaged with the project and understanding the value that CMX can contribute.

I’m here at the 2013 SITA Air Transport IT Summit in Brussels with hundreds of the industry’s decision makers gathered to hear CEO’s and CIO’s address the community. In partnership with SITA, Cisco displayed the next generation of passenger monitoring and flow management solutions using Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX) Solution and SITA’s industry specific customizations at the summit.
The main themes emerging in the sessions from the experts sharing their insights for the future of the industry are the ‘mobile explosion’, the demands of next generation passengers and, of course, the challenges of business intelligence & Big Data.
