Cisco Live excited many delegates this year, and one of the highlights was the World of Solutions. “Only Cisco could pull this off” one delegate mentioned on Social media (#CLUS). There was an even stronger sense of confidence that Cisco was relevant to many industry verticals this year. The Industrial section of the ‘Cisco Campus’ showed off tons of new advances, and, for the first time, a small but important process industries (including Oil and Gas) booth opened up showing the services-based solutions Secure Ops and Collaborative Operations. Let’s talk about Collaborative Operations.
As you learn in the Video, Suresh Venkat speaks to the how Collaborative Operations goes beyond the ‘one-to-many’ collaborative solutions out there today, and provided a ‘many-to-many’ experience, that can be ‘always-on’ and people, data, and things can be brought into the session to create a more productive process (yes, that sounds a bit like the Internet of Everything – and it is an example!). Having that kind of capability can reduce downtime in, for example, the oil and gas industry, or or any industry that’s looking for a control room type environment to plan, monitor or react to situations and incidents or progress projects more rapidly.
The solution can bring in surveillance media, any endpoint audio including two-way radio, and integrate with mobile wireless collaboration devices like the Librestream camera he displayed. The ‘multiple-tile’ single-pane-of-glass approach demonstrated other integrations as well. Not only news feeds (useful for assessing situations from a news-media/PR perspective), but also feeds from SCADA data analysis systems like the BRS Labs panel Suresh shows in the video, and the Bit Stew analytics software visualization feed demonstrated live at the show.
As Suresh sums up “It’s all about getting the right people together at the right time with the right resources and make a decision in real time”.
The Business Outcomes Contest is designed to recognize, promote and award the innovative work being done by Cisco solution partners to transform businesses and industries. There were over 70 submissions and only a handful won, judged in terms of the innovation process, the problem solved and the technology used.
Specifically, Librestream won (see press release) for their joint project at premium appliance manufacturer Sub-Zero. This was a compelling product development and remote collaboration story – more details here in Chet Namboodri’s blog , “Sub-Zero Innovates with the Internet of Everything” as well as the case study page. The Librestream solution, working on top of the Cisco network, enabled Sub-Zero to meet an aggressive product rollout of over 60 new models across its refrigeration and cooking (under the WOLF brand name) lines to meet its strategic goals. Accelerating New Product Introduction (NPI) Cycles
In order to prepare for the largest product roll-out in the company’s history–60 new appliance models across refrigeration and its premium cooking brand, Wolf–Sub-Zero needed a top-notch, end-to-end network to provide flexible communication and collaboration between its engineering groups, the existing factories in Madison, and the new production facility in Goodyear. In addition, Sub Zero needed to ensure robust communication and diagnostic data exchange with external suppliers and installation partners. Dubbed the “New Generation Collaboration Initiative,” Sub-Zero worked with Cisco and Librestream to aid the design, launch, and ongoing manufacture of its new products.
Congratulations to Boeing on shipping it’s first 787 Dreamliner to ANA (All Nippon Airways). The world has been waiting and US Manufacturing has delivered. But it’s not just US Manufacturing – suppliers as far away as Australia, Italy, Japan and Russia, to name but a few countries have been working with Boeing Engineers to bring the airplane to market – and using Cisco or Cisco Partner technologies to do so!
