We will be taking part in several talks and presentations, including the following:

• The CC Forum Interim Steering Committee -- This time will be used for both the Terms of Reference working group and the Governance working group.
• Open Group Trusted Technology Forum (O-TTF).   The O-TTF is developing a set of best practice requirements and recommendations for Supply Chain Security, that when practically applied, create a business benefit in terms of reduced risk of acquiring tainted or counterfeit products for the technology acquirer.
• “Lock it down or Free it Up” -- Special keynote address by Christopher Young, Senior Vice President, Security and Government Group, Cisco -- Wednesday February 29, 3:10 p.m.

If I had to summarize Cisco Live London in one word, I choose “educational”. In the four days I was at Cisco Live London, I had the opportunity to meet our local medianet experts, Patrick Charretour and Peter Matthews, learn about our broad core network portfolio, and listen to the challenges our customers face as they use video solutions in their organization.  Whether customers are deploying video surveillance, signage, or telepresence, each seemed to want help on where to start with their deployment and wondering if medianet would be the solution.

Conversations at the medianet station were engaging and all seem to start with the same question, “What is medianet?”.  Medianet is Cisco’s end-to-end video architecture, optimize for the pervasive deployment of video. So at Cisco Live, we demonstrated how Cisco’s medianet architecture makes it easier for you to plan, deploy and manage video in your organization.  Using Cisco TelePresence EX 90 systems, we demonstrated the performance monitoring and mediatrace capabilities in a Cisco medianet, allowing application and network managers to easily identify and troubleshoot issues that may occur during a telepresence call.  We also showed a new capability, but since we haven’t officially launched it, I can’t say much.  You’ll just have to go to Interop Las Vegas or Cisco Live San Diego to find out.

Those of us who are science fiction fans—and even some who aren’t—love to speculate about what the future holds for us in terms of technology. What will our lives be like? What will we be able to do then that we can’t do now? What kinds of things will we be using? It’s this forward-looking imagining that really excites me as we consider the possibilities. And that’s why I’m looking forward to my upcoming keynote at the Computer Associates (CA) Conference. I’ll be talking about the here and now, but also taking a peek into the future.

Today’s technology, when managed from an intelligent network, is incredibly powerful, allowing us to get so much more done than ever before, regardless of location or device. Not only that, we’re able to zip effortlessly between our work selves and our personal-life selves—securely and seamlessly. And as a result, businesses are seeing greater productivity and greater opportunity for innovation.

But imagine what things might look like 10 years out. Already, we’re seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to data deluge and device proliferation. Think about it: increasing number of devices means increasing number of applications, which leads to increasing amounts of data.  In fact, just this past week, the online publication PopSci reported on the military’s challenges with data overload. And by no means is this issue limited to the military or public sector alone.

We’ve seen lots here at Cisco Live so far—great demos from partners of cloud computing at work, Chairman and CEO John Chambers’ keynote address highlighting Cisco’s strength in IT, and a telehealth demo showing the power of Cisco HealthPresence. During today’s keynote presentation from CTO Padmasree Warrior and CIO Rebecca Jacoby, live and virtual attendees got the chance to see real-world examples of how Cisco technology is driving innovation now through the 21st century.

Padma kicked off her talk with a few mind-boggling stats—did you know that currently 13 billion devices connect to the network? That equals two devices for every person on earth. That number is expected to grow to 50 billion devices, meaning each of us will own six. (I guess that means it’s ok if I lose my phone, I can always grab my tablet!)

And speaking of tablets, Padma said that by the end of her talk, she estimates that over 6000 tablets will have been sold. That’s a lot of devices that rely on the network—so how is Cisco is responding to the demand?

Cisco Live 2011 officially kicked off today in true Las Vegas style. As conference attendees waited for Cisco SVP Carlos Dominguez to give the welcome address, flash mobbers disguised as event attendees suddenly arose from their seats and began a choreographed dance to the Black Eyed Peas’ hit “I Gotta Feeling.” and the Beatles song “All Together Now.”

Carlos then entered the stage and welcomed the staggering number of attendees: 15,000+ live attendees and 40,000+ virtual attendees across 150+ countries.

Then it was Chairman and CEO John Chambers’ turn to address attendees. Keeping in line with recent announcements, John agreed that there was a need to simplify operations at Cisco to make it easier for customers and partners to do business with us and he promised that changes would be coming soon.
