The Dark Side of Technology

Cisco Champions ask Challenging Questions.  This is the third and final blog in our series presented by Carlos Dominguez and Jimmy Ray Purser. You can read the first blog by Carlos addressing connectivity and the less tech-fortunate here and the second blog by Jimmy Ray on the future of the CCIE here.

I recently had an opportunity to sit down with our Cisco Champions to discuss a range of topics and this was by far the most interesting question as it was inspired by high school students. High school teacher, Hector Albizo’s students wanted to know:

 “What is currently considered the dark side of technology?”

Indeed a great question!  Technology has a ying and yang.  For every good there is a dark side.  Let’s look at history to see examples.  The axe was created for chopping down trees, keeping us warm with fire wood and  building things, all good results that we benefit from.    On the dark side, it became a weapon of war.  The same trend is true for technology. Built Cisco-Tough CCIE is 20 years strong

I recently had an opportunity to sit down with our Cisco Champions to discuss a range of topics about technology.  Here’s a question that was top of mind for Edward Henry:  

“The CCIE is easily recognized as one of the most elite certifications in the industry. It’s currently turned 20 years old, where do you see the program in 5 or 10 more years?”

What a great question! Let’s take a quick look at why the CCIE program was created.  Cisco announced the CCIE program on Sept. 27, 1993, in a press release  where John Chambers, said:

“The CCIE Program begins where other vendors’ certification programs leave off. It can be compared to completing a university course versus taking college entrance exams. Prospective CCIE candidates must be highly qualified just to enter the program, and then, after taking an intensive troubleshooting course, must pass a rigorous hands-on lab test conducted by senior support engineers. This very stringent set of requirements ensures that only the best professionals are selected.” Read More »

Contact Center: Experience Matters

Our latest episode is out!  This one is all about the Contact Center and we spent a lot more time showing examples of Social Media integration.  Everyone agrees that ‘the internets’ are a huge watering hole of opinions and valuable business data…but its overwhelming when trying to figure out just how you might leverage it.  Now you can integrate all that goodness with the maturity of business relevant call center and all the process that implies.

Jimmy Ray shares his personal experience volunteering to work in an actual (non-Cisco) call center all night long to gain better experience for how we developed this show.  Check out his blog for more details on this.
