First Impressions: End User and IT Experiences

First impressions matter. Whether you’re trying to get a job, make a sale, or go on a second date, you know that the first things you do and say are critical. Studies say you have between 2 seconds and 2 minutes to make a first impression. When you download a new app for your tablet or phone, how much time does it have to make its first impression on you?

When IT departments make technology decisions, the path to end-user adoption is a key concern. The relative ease or difficulty of setting up and maintaining the back-end infrastructure or cloud service is one thing, but the means by which end users first experience the solution and get started using it is perhaps even more important.

IT needs products that are easy to roll out and that provide end users — their customers — with a delightful first impression. That’s why Cisco considers not just the end user experience and the IT administrator experience, but the places where they intersect, such as in the deployment of solutions to a large end-user community.

Cisco Live: Catalyst 6500 and Sup2T: Engaging  attendees with Mobile Devices

With the launch of the Sup2T supervisor, and associated line cards (69xx), for the Catalyst 6500 Family Switches, Cisco embarked on an innovative strategy to help attendees learn about the features of the Catalyst 6500 family of switches, by providing a simple “Trivia Game” that attendees could play by downloading a Catalyst 6500 Mobile app, directly to their mobile devices.

Over 780 attendees completed the trivia game on iPhones and iPads, and each day at Cisco Live, three “winners” were randomly picked from all the attendees who had answered the most trivia questions correctly.

The mobile app, available at the iTunes app store, was a huge success, especially with its contextual set of features and content, centered  around the Catalyst 6500 family of switches.

Cisco Positioned as a Leader in the 2010 Magic Quadrant for SSL VPNs

Mobility is changing the way I work. I work in the office, at home and wherever I am between the two. Not only do I have a smartphone, I also have an iPad and a corporate laptop. I access email and work using all three devices, happy that I can seamlessly connect from anywhere, at anytime, from any device. I am not unlike many workers today where work is becoming an activity and not a place and I need consistent security enforcement and protection, particularly when I am outside of the office.

Three letters enable much of this, V – P – N. VPNs are not new but Cisco continues to innovate with new VPN and secure mobility solutions to secure mobile workers like me. For instance, in October Cisco announced AnyConnect 3.0 that ties the client to web security in the cloud via Cisco ScanSafe in addition to an on-premise Web Security Appliances and the AnyConnect client is now available for both the Apple iPhone and iPad running iOS version 4.2+.
