Lately, our customers have been expressing interest in a number of cloud topics:
- What are best practices in building a cloud business?
- Enterprise-grade solutions versus best-efforts applications
- Standardization and security
- Connectivity from end-to-end
- Advanced technologies within and between clouds
I’m looking forward to continuing the conversations with cloud service providers next week down in Las Vegas. If you’re coming to Interop, we’re continuing Read More »

This weekend my little sis and I re-watched Best in Show. This 2000 gem from Christopher Guest is a gentle mocumentary of the personalities you’d find at a dog show. We got some laughs as we watched the dialog between the commentators – one who was supposed to be quite knowledgeable on dogs, and one who was clueless and said things like:
Now tell me, which one of these dogs would you want to have as your wide receiver on your football team?
I especially liked the above because it is pretty random and the response from the other commentator was great. I thought about it this morning since the NFL draft is tonight (go Niners!) and was thinking about Best In Show overall since we have our own competition coming up in a few weeks.

At Cisco, we’ve talked many times before about the exhaustion of IPv4 address space and the need for the industry to adopt IPv6 to support the explosion in the number of people, devices, and web services and enable the continuing growth of the Internet. As you can read in the announcement on our corporate blog, today Cisco joined with other leading industry participants such as AT&T, Google, Facebook, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable to be part of the World IPv6 Launch. This means that by June 6, 2012 all participants will permanently enable IPv6 on their networks and websites.
Since deployment of IPv6 requires an industry-wide response we recently teamed with Excentis to participate in Read More »

Observe Cisco medianet in action as you tour Interop's network with conference engineers.
Today was the first day of Interop 2011 in Javits Center in New York City! The event runs until Friday, Oct. 7, with a full schedule. The show floor is open on Wednesday and Thursday with the Cisco booth highlighting a number of medianet technologies.
Performance monitor, which allows for the analysis of voice/video/data traffic on Catalyst 3000 series switches and ISRs (today) just via a software upgrade, will be shown. Additionally, the medianet booth will have a demonstration setup where the Catalyst 3000, using the IPSLA video operations feature, generates synthetic video traffic that stresses the network in the same way as a variety of video endpoints. In keeping with the IPv6 theme of Interop this year we’ll also have IPv6-enabled video endpoints. In fact, we’ll be showing IPv6 to IPv4 interoperability. Stop by and say hi! Read More »

New York City always has lots going on, but if you’re heading there next week, don’t miss all the great activities we have going on at Interop 2011. We’ll be focusing on several timely IT trends and issues, but our top billing will be Bring Your Own Device.
In fact, if you saw my blog from the past week, Not Your Mother’s Connected World, you might remember one of the statistics I cited from our 2011 Cisco Connected World Technology Report: Two-thirds of students (66%) and more than half of employees (58%) cite a mobile device (laptop, smartphone, tablet) as “the most important technology in their lives.” This attitude, plus the overall proliferation of mobile devices up the ante for IT managers as they look to find new ways of managing the network.
To see what else we have in store in for you next week, watch the video below.
I hope to see you at Booth 121! And remember, for more detail on what’s going on, go to www.cisco.com/go/interopny.
