The Microsoft ecosystem continues to be an important area of focus with our Cisco Datacenter product and solution teams. UCS, Nexus, UCS Management, and ACI teams have continued to innovate and launch new offerings during the past few months. Let’s take a look at our recent happenings and launches that can help enable your organization to deliver an optimal datacenter environment for your Microsoft platforms:
1. PASS, Microsoft SQL Server, and Cisco’s Unified Datacenter…
We’ve ramped up our focus on Microsoft’s SQL Server platform! Investments in PASS (Professional Association of SQL Server), Pass Summit 2013, and the PASS Virtualization Chapter afford us the opportunity to educate this world-wide BI and Data Management audience on UCS, Nexus, FlexPod, and VSPEX. Stay tuned for more from us, too as Microsoft gets closer to shipping their SQL Server 2014 platform.
2. Cisco and the Microsoft Cloud OS Launch…
Occurring around the world during the November 2013 to January 2014 timeframe is Microsoft’s Cloud OS launch – the coming out party for Windows Server 2012 R2 as well as System Center 2012 R2. Cisco will be a local sponsor at many of these events – in fact as of this writing we have wrapped up our participation at multiple events in Canada, Germany, and South Africa. Please stop by your local Microsoft Cloud OS event and visit the Cisco booth to learn more as well as listen to Cisco’s Chief Technology & Strategy Officer Padmasree Warrior on our Microsoft alliance and datacenter solutions.
3. Cisco, Microsoft, and the Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)…
Microsoft was a key strategic partner at our recent New York City ACI launch with strong support from key Microsoft leaders such as Satya Nadella, Executive Vice President of their Cloud and Enterprise business unit. Satya shared the stage with Cisco CEO John Chambers in announcing ACI to the public. In addition, Microsoft’s Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President, System Center blogged on the event and created a video on his ACI thoughts. Microsoft -- with their key platforms of Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint – sees ACI as a way to deliver ‘…datacenter without boundaries for our customers…’
Cisco and Microsoft have a developed a powerful alliance in the data center that extends the value of the Cisco Unified Fabric, Unified Computing System, and Unified Network Services through leading-edge integrated solutions with Microsoft Windows Server, Hyper-V and System Center. These integrations provide an opportunity for Channel Partners to deliver differentiated solutions that address their customer’s most pressing business and IT challenges.
The Nexus 1000V Switch for Microsoft Hyper-V stands out as an example of how Cisco and Microsoft are collaborating to offer integrated solutions to customers and partners. The Nexus 1000V extends Cisco networking benefits to Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V deployments and provides a consistent operational model across physical and virtual environments. Cisco was the first company to integrate with Hyper-V and the industry is taking notice. Nexus 1000V for Microsoft Hyper-V was recently recognized as Best of TechEd 2013 in the Virtualization category.
We’re just a week away from Microsoft’s annual partner soiree -- Worldwide Partner Conference 2013 (WPC) -- where ~16,000 channel partners from around the world will converge in Houston to learn about all things Windows Server, SQL Server, Surface, Office 365, System Center, and much more…
Why Cisco @ WPC 2013?
Cisco is at WPC as Microsoft is a strategic partner in the datacenter. Working with Microsoft helps Cisco bring IT solutions to market that our customers are demanding be it private cloud solutions around Windows Server or upgrades to large Exchange and SharePoint environments. These requests are absolutely in line with what we have been hearing from customers: Cisco is their strategic IT partner, not just a communications partner.
What Should I look for?
My colleague Bill Shields posted a Cisco Data Center blog post the other day on our booth area and the solutions we will be showcasing: UCS B-Series blade and C-Series rack servers and solutions such as FlexPod and VSPEX; SQL and Exchange solutions; Cisco UCS Manager and PowerTool, Cisco’s PowerShell utility; and Windows Server 2012 networking featuring Cisco Nexus 1000V. There is a reason UCS, UCS Manager, and Nexus 1000V have been awarded Best of Tech Ed recognition three years running… Stop by booth #1401 and see why!
Cool Must See Item #1: Nexus 1000V Switch for Hyper-V
We just started shipping our Nexus 1000V Switch for Hyper-V. It brings enterprise-class cloud networking to Windows Server 2012 and Hyper-V. The Nexus 1000V Switch for Microsoft Hyper-V offers consistent operational experience across physical, virtual, and mixed hypervisor environments; reduces operational complexity through dynamic policy provisioning and mobility-aware network policies; and improves security through integrated virtual services and advanced Cisco NX-OS features
Cool Must See Item #2: Cisco PowerTool for PowerShell
Over the past several years we have seen PowerShell emerge from Microsoft as a base platform for management tool offerings such as System Center as well as being a scripting platform used by IT Administrators to drive increased automation and consistency in various deployment, configuration, and maintenance tasks. Cisco’s PowerTool for PowerShell is our ‘PowerShell library’. It provides a wealth of UCS, UCS Manager, and Nexus 1000V cmdlets that can improve the management of your Microsoft oriented datacenter.
Like many of you I have spent the past week or so getting caught up with work and office goings on after a very successful and informative Microsoft Tech Ed North America 2013 event in New Orleans. At Cisco, our Microsoft team is already ramped up for next week’s Microsoft Tech Ed Europe event and then we go at it once again in Houston at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference. At each of these events Cisco is a Gold Sponsor and we will be showcasing our award winning Microsoft datacenter oriented products and solutions: UCS, Nexus, FlexPod, and VSPEX. Stop by our booths and grab one of our 2013 Microsoft Event Tour t-shirts!
Over the past 3 years we’ve had quite a run of good luck at Microsoft Tech Ed winning “Best of Tech Ed” awards in 2011, 2012, and 2013! Frankly this is due to the consistent, ongoing industry-leading innovation that Cisco’s R&D teams in our Datacenter Group are delivering to the market place. In 2011 our Cisco UCS B250 series server family was recognized with a Best of Tech Ed award. In 2012 UCS Manager was awarded the Breakthrough Technology Award at Tech Ed. Finally, just recently for 2013, our Nexus 1000V software switch for Hyper-V and our FlexPod with Microsoft Private Cloud solution won Best of Tech Ed accolades.
This innovation stream from Cisco has prepared us for the I.T. demands that we are all facing today – how to move to a more agile and efficient I.T. technology base as well as driving maximum budgetary efficiencies in OpEx and CapEx . Our Cisco Microsoft solutions are available today and can assist your organizations as they move to a Microsoft private cloud infrastructure and help you achieve positive ROI and TCO advantages.
