Cisco enables Wi-Fi at Hotel Technology Forum at renowned Bellagio

We are heading to The Strip once again next week as sponsors of the Hotel Technology Forum (HTF). This time, we are staying in some very comfortable territory and get to experience our own solutions in action. The Bellagio will be hosting HTF from April 17-19 and expects to have many hospitality leaders pass through its lobby.

In late 2012, the Bellagio along with three other MGM Resorts’ properties completed a Cisco Systems Network Wi-Fi installation.  An instant upgrade, hotel guests and conference attendees no longer have to pay a fee or enter a password to access the wireless local area network (LAN) via their smart phones, laptops and tablets.  HTF show-goers will experience a network that is 30 percent faster than similar large-scale wireless networks as well as all 330 access points The Bellagio has to offer.

HTNG Recap: Cisco Hospitality highlights industry leadership

We had a great time last week at the Hotel Technology Next Generation’s (HTNG) North American Conference in Atlanta. Many of the industry’s top leaders were in attendance, and it was exciting to see wireless and mobility as a recurring theme throughout the show. There were various Wireless-focused presentations, including one from Wi-Fi Alliance focused on Miracast and Passpoint. Our team also noticed that personal area network (PAN) capabilities are becoming of more interest to hoteliers as guests need a way to connect their devices together to share content.

Our very own Bob Friday, CTO, Wireless Networking Group, and John Bollen, MGM resorts VP of IT Strategy led the Wi-Fi conversations and delivered the conference’s keynote where they focused on key trends in the industry and our innovative  implementation at MGM.

Location-Based Services That Work for Everyone

Some exciting things are beginning to transpire in today’s hotel industry. As technology finds its way into nearly every aspect of our lives, it’s important to take a look at the impact mobile device usage has had and continues to have on hoteliers and guests alike. Guests today are more technologically in-tune than ever before, often traveling with multiple devices that they plan to use leisurely, for business or both.  These devices are also increasingly moving more data as their radios become more sophisticated, and they have increased battery life and are connecting to even more cloud services.  Guests also have increasing expectations that they will always be connected wherever they are.

More smart devices translate to more data crossing the network, and this mass amount of data can be used to gather invaluable guest information for hoteliers, including behavioral insights and on-site property analytics. When collected, measured and used correctly, this data can create a unique and personalized mobile experience for the guest while also creating revenue-growth opportunities for hoteliers.

Cisco Hospitality and MGM partner to deliver keynote at HTNG

As our team prepares to attend Hotel Technology Next Generation’s (HTNG) North American Conference next week in Atlanta, we are excited to have one of our very own as the keynote to really highlight Cisco’s leadership in the hospitality industry. Cisco’s Bob Friday, CTO, Wireless Networking Group, will be joined by our partner John Bollen, MGM resorts VP of IT to discuss key trends in the industry and specifically at MGM. They will discuss guest needs and demands, how to turn the mobile opportunity into revenue, and the vision of the industry and where it is going.

The keynote will hit on all the imperatives that Cisco Hospitality is driving citing Cisco’s recent Wi-Fi installation at MGM Resorts as a key example. Together, the pair will discuss how certain trends are impacting both Cisco and MGM solutions developments, investments and more. With Bob Friday’s experience in mobility, he will also address what he is seeing in other industries and how it can be applied to hospitality.
