Cisco ūmi: Serving Those Who Serve Us

On November 11, 1919, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson stated, “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”

To most Americans, we know this day as Veterans Day. It’s a time to remember the military veterans who have served our country and thank those who are currently serving.

Movember: “umistache” Month!

Have you seen more men with moustaches than usual over the past week?

Every November, men are challenged to change their physical appearance by growing a “mo” (slang for moustache) for 30 days to support men’s health.

The idea of Movember was inspired in 2003 when a few guys from Melbourne, Australia, decided to bring the moustache back and create awareness around men’s health. No money was raised that year however in 2004 the campaign evolved, raising over $55,000 for the Prostate Cancer of Australia.

A ūmi Engagement: $50 Visa Gift Card Question of the Week + Last Week’s Winner

The following post was contributed by Frank, one of our Cisco ūmi beta users.

It was one thing to hear about my niece Sarah’s engagement… was quite another thing to see it live from Greenville, South Carolina – piped right into our family room in Saratoga, California.

With ūmi, I was able to see details like the glitter of Sarah’s shiny ring and how my niece – who just yesterday was joining “Brownies” – was beaming with a distinct glow.

I learned that only hi-def “Cisco ūmi” can broadcast and show a sense of “radiance” pouring from Sarah as she talked about the engagement to Noel.

Maybe now we can call these “ūmi-moments”?

Here’s the $50 Visa Gift card question of the week. Please comment with your name, email and in 50 words or less. Sweepstakes for this period starts from today until next Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 11:59PM PST. We will announce the winner next Monday, at 9:00AM PST with the next opportunity to win a $50 Visa Gift Card. For official rules, please click here.

Cisco ūmi on The Oprah Winfrey Show!

“Joining us on Cisco ūmi, a new way to video call from home” was Oprah’s opening line before The Oprah Winfrey Show went live with Cisco ūmi yesterday, November 3rd.

Oprah recently went on a camping trip with her best friend Gayle, and used Cisco ūmi to re-connect with the friends she met at her recent camping adventure to Yosemite National Park.

Oprah and Gayle were able to talk each of the two families which included 8 family members each on their couch in the comfort of their own home using Cisco ūmi telepresence.

Oprah also references Cisco ūmi on Gift Finder “Small Gadgets: A few little gadgets we think are just great.” We hope your stocking is big enough to fit Cisco ūmi this year to someone you wish you saw more often!
