Tap into the ‘Force’ to Drive Your Success in 2012

January 27, 2012 at 8:57 am PST

Have you heard the news? 3D versions of the Star Wars movies will begin rolling out in 2012. I know some sci-fi geeks…ah, friends…who can hardly wait.

Me, I prefer Force 3. I like to think of them as the living, breathing version of Star Wars. No Darth Vaders, no jittery C-3POs, but plenty of Luke Skywalkers—regular “heroes” intent on designing technology solutions with a relentless focus on meeting their customers’ business needs.

But what really grabs my attention in their video below is that Force 3 gets it, they truly do. As a thriving Cisco Master Partner, pushing products isn’t on their intergalactic radar— it’s not even within low-earth orbit.

So if it’s not selling gear, what’s Force 3’s strategy for success? Read More »

I can see clearly now!

Hopefully everyone is back from the Christmas/New Years Holidays by now and already hit the deck running. I know we in the Manufacturing team are already off, well, most of us. I started the New Year by having cataract surgery. So I am going to combine some Healthcare with some Manufacturing in this blog. Consider yourself forewarned!

First, what to expect from us this coming year: much more on the value of mobility and the ability to collaborate across the global workforce, wherever they are (yes, that is Borderless Networks); then a lot on the vast amount of data presenting itself to the factory and from the factory to the enterprise (you will hear the term “data deluge”); also the impact of “the cloud” on the factory; also the growing prevalence of tablets and other smart devices in manufacturing operations. And we will undoubtedly have new areas of concentration throughout the year as new technologies take hold in manufacturing.

So, that is the preview of the year. But now I want to talk about my personal experience with Healthcare and how it relates to Manufacturing. Read More »

Technology helps all of us smile this holiday season

Technology makes all of us smile this holiday season

As we wrap up our holiday time away, I thought it a great time to reflect on the gift we often forget about … spending time with our loved ones and the ability to make each other smile….

These days we constantly talk about how technology in healthcare settings makes us more efficient, more collaborative and more patient-centric.  I don’t hear much, however, about how it makes us SMILE.  Today I have found the exception: Santa, connecting live via video, to chat with a hospitalized child.  Smiles erupt from the child, parent, and staff alike – not to mention Santa himself.

Such is the scene at 15 hospitals across the U.S. the last couple of weeks.  As a nurse and caregiver, it touches my heart to know that despite all that medicine and technology offer today, we can’t cure everyone as soon as we would like and some patients and their families will celebrate the holidays surrounded by beeping machines and sterile environments.  It is exciting to see the technology we use to care for a child’s illness can be used to boost the spirit as well…

Success stories like this prompt me to think of every increasing ways we can leverage technology to bring better health services – iced with a bit of joy – to our patients in the coming year!    Hope it does the same for you!

What are your ideas how technology can be used for multiple purposes?  Wishing us all a Happy and Innovative 2012 benefiting society.

Networked Santa Visits Hospitalized Children

December 23, 2011 at 7:19 am PST

Noah Kiser is six months into leukemia treatment at Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas. Although Christmas is days away, he must remain hospitalized for the time of year when he loves “seeing other people jump for joy.”

But thanks to Cisco networking technology and some very tech-savvy elves, Noah was able to visit Santa this year without leaving the hospital.
