At the start of 2014, SAP identified four corporate priorities: HANA, Cloud, Mobility, and Analytics. Cisco, in support of these priorities, expanded their partnership with SAP to announce the availability of a Cisco Cloud Reference Architecture for SAP HANA Applications. This architecture, jointly defined between SAP, SAP partners, and Cisco, enables Cisco Partners to launch enterprise-class clouds for SAP applications that run on HANA and meet SAP’s certification requirements while maintaining the critical infrastructure performance.
Virtustream, a leading SAP partner and Cisco Powered Cloud Service Provider, was one of the first companies to reach SAP certification for HANA in the Cloud, and follows the Cisco reference architecture for SAP HANA Applications. Our Enterprise-class Cloud offers customers a secure, elastic and resilient way to deploy SAP workloads, with and without HANA, with all the economic benefits of a cloud solution.
Cisco’s strategy of enabling service providers to deliver SAP HANA Cloud Services via a proven reference architecture is complimentary to Virtustream’s Cloud Service Provider (CSP) enablement efforts. CSPs are using Cisco’s reference architecture and Virtustream’s xStream software to build their own SAP HANA Cloud Service. Cisco’s global market penetration and service provider optimized solutions effectively furthers Virtustream’s reach in the market. Together, we offer CSPs a faster time to adoption and a more predictable path to revenue.
Partners like Virtustream who follow the Cisco Cloud Reference Architecture for SAP in the Cloud are also eligible for participation in the “Cisco-Powered Cloud and Managed Service Provider Program (CMSP)”. This program links the partner community and the Cisco sales force, allowing for Cisco sales reps to get compensated for workloads that land on CMSP platforms. With the rapid rise of hybrid cloud deployments, this joint approach puts the Cisco field sales force in sync with the partner community, resulting in a consistent message to the customer base.
Further, given the dynamic nature of the SAP HANA solution and the fact that technology is rapidly evolving, having strong partner OpEx options means that the customer can experience flexibility over the lifecycle of the technology.
Customers who are interested in learning more about Virtustream, our offerings for SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud services, and Cisco’s CMSP designation for SAP HANA can visit the Cisco Booth at Sapphire Booth 230 where we will be demonstrating and displaying our solutions.

Extending our vision of shared infrastructure and unified management for enterprise applications, we are announcing industry’s first validated and certified solution for real-time Big Data analytics with SAP HANA. Based on our joint work with Intel and SAP at the SAP Co-innovation Lab (COIL), the solution integrates SAP HANA with Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop running on Cisco UCS Common Platform Architecture (CPA) for Big Data, enabling real-time analysis of Big Data, while radically simplifying the infrastructure and management.

4 years ago, Cisco introduced a revolutionary server platform called Unified Computing System or UCS. Since that time it has become the number 2 blade server in the world. At the same time UCS was introduced, Cisco also elevated their relationship with SAP. Cisco was one of the first hardware platform certified for SAP HANA. Cisco has also announced and is selling SAP solutions on the UCS platform in a variety of solutions, those being SAP on Vblock, SAP on FlexPod, SAP ERP on UCS, Precision Marketing for retail establishments on UCS, Suite on HANA on UCS, Sybase ASE on UCS. Cisco is also working very closely with SAP on their cloud solutions and how these solutions will benefit joint customers.

Over the past three years, Cisco has vaulted from the not only the leader in the networking industry, but they have become the number two blade vendor in the US and number three world-wide. This has caused some pause on the part of the top platform vendors in the industry.
Cisco is now making an impact on the application world as well. Last week at SAP Sapphire, the largest world-wide industry trade show for SAP in Orlando, Vishal Sikka, a member of the SAP Executive Board, specifically called out Cisco as a SAP HANA Server Platform Vendor in addition to their world-wide leadership role in the networking space. This was significant because this clearly puts Cisco in a different category as they gain market share in the SAP Application and SAP HANA space.
The result of this announcement was clearly visible at the Cisco booth at Sapphire. Cisco was an Onyx sponsor at Sapphire and demonstrated the many solutions that Cisco has with SAP. In the booth there was SAP HANA, SAP on Vblock, SAP on FlexPod, IT Process Automation, Afaria, and Precision Retail. The Cisco UCS Server Platform, Fabric Extender and Nexus are the basis for all these solutions with SAP. The result is Lower Total Cost of Ownership on a standardized x86 platform.

Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS) server platform continues to make significant strides in becoming a major player in the mission-critical application space, in this case SAP. UCS just claimed a fantastic benchmark using the UCS B200 on SAP Sybase ASE.
Since UCS was built from the ground up for virtualization, not only will its virtues lend itself to speed as evidenced by the SAP SD benchmark , UCS will also significantly lower operating costs in the process as evidenced by an external case study with TUI Travel or HotelsBeds
out of Spain. Read and downlaod here the case study
Cisco has also been running a comprehensive set of world-wide SAP HANA Roadshows. They have consisted of 11 road shows in the US, 6 road shows in EMEAR, 3 road shows in Canada, and 1 in APJC. As a result, the demand for SAP HANA on the Cisco UCS Server Platform has dramatically increased.
Cisco now has over 50 customers running SAP HANA on Cisco UCS Servers. Some of these customers vary from very large service provider companies, medical device firms, large international food companies, and world wide travel companies. The size of the server used for these customers vary from small rack mount servers (Cisco UCS C260), to medium configurations (Cisco C460) to larger installs that take advantage of the Cisco Blade Server Technology (Cisco B440). All of these servers are certified for SAP HANA and are currently available on the SAP Product Availability Matrix (PAM).
You can see this investment in the Cisco booth #1412 at SAP Sapphire from May 14-16 in Orlando, Florida. Look forward to seeing you there
