If you are deploying or managing video and collaboration applications, you might have realized that providing good quality experience for users can quickly become complex and costly as you deploy so many different applications and endpoints from different vendors at the same time in the same infrastructure.
The figure below compares voice and video applications. As you can see, the characteristics of voice applications are very consistent when compared with the different video applications. Different video applications have different bandwidth requirements; traffic is bursty, unpredictable and highly compressed and often available in a variety of form factors from different vendors.

Hello IP Surveillance Enthusiasts,
ISC West was held at Las Vegas between Apr 10-12, and we continued the engagements with our partners on Cisco Medianet Plugfest here. Plugfest was launched at ASIS Philadelphia in September 2012, and from then till now, we have been actively working on getting partners on-boarded into Cisco’s MSP Cisco Developer Network (CDN) program, evaluating the test results gathered during ASIS and making recommendations to partners on improving interoperability with the network.
At ISC West, we had the wonderful opportunity to touch base with many of our partners already in CDN, and the ones we are closely working with on the process.
These were the sessions/interactions we had on Plugfest at ISC West –

We came together at ASIS, September 2012 in Philadelphia and made good progress with Plugfest – The Media Services Proxy (MSP) CDN program for validating the interoperability of your IP Surveillance cameras with the Cisco Network. We shared with you the capabilities of MSP, the value it can bring for you, and had a live lab where we tested (plug-and-play) your cameras with the MSP software at the event.
Since then we have been working with many of you on getting you on boarded with the CDN program so you could be our official partners, and have also been working on analyzing the lab data we gathered at ASIS.
We will be at ISC West 2013 to share our progress and next steps with you. I take great pleasure in inviting you to our sessions at ISC West –

There has been a lot of good progress after the Plugfest launch for Media Services Proxy (MSP) at the ASIS (for IP Surveillance) in September 2012. The Plugfest was very well received by many IP Surveillance camera vendors, and the feedback has been very positive on why and how MSP is very useful for IP surveillance deployments. We have continued to engage with quite a few partners we met at the Plugfest to make sure we build on this partnership.
I am delighted to announce that the following partners have successfully completed the Interoperability Verification Testing (IVT) as part of the MSP CDN program:
- Flir Systems (Model: F-316)
- Hikvision (Model: ds-2cd754)
- Panasonic (Model: wv-sp509)
- Schneider Electric – Pelco Cameras by Schneider Electric (Model: IXE10LW)
These are our first set of partners to have been validated against Cisco Medianet’s MSP capabilities, which makes deployment and operations of these IP surveillance cameras simpler and effective on a Cisco network. We are working with the other partners and hope to provide updates very soon!

I often find myself with colleagues and friends having an app discussion that at times feels like an exciting discovery session and other times feels like an “app showdown”. It’s either a case of “Wow, that’s cool”, or “My apps are better than yours”. I prefer the former discussion to the latter, because in the end we can all benefit from learning about new ways and new tools to make our day more productive, or our lives easier, or just a lot more fun!
Well, here’s an app that accomplishes all three of those goals – the new Cisco Enterprise Networks App. It will help you be more productive, because if you are interested in The Cisco Cloud Intelligent Network (CIN) and/or Cisco Unified Access (UA), you can focus on just those – in one convenient place. Download it, and you’ll be able to access the latest CIN and UA videos, presentations, and product information and Cisco technology innovations as well as access to our social media channels. That’s bound to make your life a little easier! Read More »
