Accelerating the Disruption in Business Mobility

Business mobility is driving better productivity, heightened customer experience, and harmonious work/life balance. It also offers freedom for knowledge workers beleaguered by accelerating demands on their time and talents. Indeed, workers themselves have taken much of the initiative toward business mobility.

It is now up to enterprises to support and shape their further adoption of this key technology to capture its full benefits. Moreover, business mobility represents an opportunity for service providers (SPs) to generate new revenue and to deepen their enterprise customer relationships.

To gain a better perspective on the latest trends in business mobility, Cisco® Consulting Services (CCS) conducted an extensive survey in March 2013. Comprising 4,800 respondents across eight countries, it is one of the largest and most comprehensive studies of the needs, interests, and behaviors of end users of business mobility.

Just What is the Business Case for BYOD?

Let Them Eat Tablets: BYOD Drives Employee Satisfaction

My observation from talking to customers and seeing how bring your own device (BYOD) is being adopted is that there are two scenarios for the BYOD business case:

  1. Application-specific mobility: specific industry applications with a proven ROI
  2. Enterprise-wide mobility: adoption over many enterprises, regardless of industry type or worker type, softer or harder-to-prove ROI

Application Specific

The first scenario is one where IT will provide employees with a mobile device. This scenario is industry-specific, has a shorter time to return on investment, is simpler to quantify, and the ROI is easier to prove.  Devices stay in the control and ownership of the organization and its IT department. This scenario includes capturing data at the point of retail activity and enabling data capture and access to workers who traditionally do not sit at desks in front of PCs.

BYOD for Manufacturers: Tablets Welcome! Here’s how…

Have you noticed all those iPads around the factory? All around the production areas, the office areas and the warehouse? These  mobile connected devices and applications are quickly changing business and organizational models.

They are also changing employee habits and the way we work, as more and more users depend on tablets, such as the Apple iPad, for a variety of daily personal and professional tasks.

It’s not  just Apple, though they’re the most common. All those other tablets too.  Some of the others are  capable of a drop or two, or more onto hard concrete!

The most prevalent use case that IT departments need to solve for is the one where an employee brings their own personal device into the company and seeks to gain network access. This is happening a lot these days.  Funny, but companies are finding this is one of the ways they are attracting and keeping talent, especially young talent, so listen up!
