Michael Capellas Shares VCE Strategy, Impact to Cisco Partners

“Cloud is going to be the dominant technology going forward,” as Michael Capellas told us at Partner Summit 2011.

And, he knows a thing or two about cloud—after all he’s the CEO of the Virtual Computing Enviroment (VCE), the joint venture between Cisco, VMware, and EMC.

When VCE was formed, the goal was to accelerate the transition to fully virtualized environments and private clouds. And with the Vblock, VCE delivers the industry’s first completely integrated IT offering that combines best-in-class virtualization, networking, computing, storage, security, and management technologies with end-to-end vendor accountability.

While I was on site at Partner Summit, I got the chance to chat with Michael Capellas and he discussed the value that VCE brings to our partners.

How does that impact you and your business? Read More »

Cisco Validated Design (CVD) for Datacenter, Virtualization, and Cloud

As you plan to deploy mission critical business applications in cloud, the first thing that comes to mind is how can all the pieces of the puzzle (infrastructure, business apps, supporting tools etc.) be put together to get all the expected benefits and efficiencies, without introducing any negative tradeoffs. This requires that all the key differentiating technologies campaigned by the vendors to win your business should collectively work as a single solution, be scalable, easy to operate, and not introduce new complexities in your environment.

While individual technology focused documentation and scalability guidelines from vendors are great resource for getting in depth information about any particular technology, a lot of times they fall short of providing you the end to end solutions focused big picture. The most popular question I hear from customers is… “How would the Cisco Datacenter Business Advantage and our open ecosystem partner technologies work together as an end to end solution that provides value to more efficiently achieve the business objectives”? Few days back, I discussed the relevance of Cisco Datacenter Business Advantage technologies to your mission critical business applications.

In addition of the Data Center of the Future, our visitors have the opportunity  to visit 14 demo kiosks covering solutions (see below)

Tonight I invited for a Daily Blogger Techminute in London 3 great bloggers  : Cisco Lisa Caywood, NetApp Tim Waldron, and CA Technologies Steven Guthrie- Please check this video, where each of them share some highlights of the day.

Cisco CEO and Chairman John Chambers key note was the highlight of the day  – John Chambers was just coming back from theWorld Economic Forum where he met leaders such as the UK prime minister, and shared their growing  interest for the solutions that Cisco and the other technology leaders have to offer to develop at an increasing rate the economy and the productivity of the countries. In his speech, as he did in Davos, John Chambers reaffirmed that “ The network changes the way citizens work, live , play and learn, transforming competitiveness through innovation and productivity”

EMC Unified Storage Compliments Cisco Unified Fabric to Provide Customers Flexibility and Choice for End to End Convergence

Storage continues to offer challenges to IT professionals: according to IDC, storage growth continues at about 30% y/y with the continued consolidation of servers, storage, and network assets becoming a new imperative through the use of technologies such as virtualization and Unified Networks based on 10G Ethernet.

To alleviate the challenges faced by its customers, EMC today announces its “Mega-Launch” providing major proof points for the convergence trend in multi-protocol SAN environments and providing unparalleled flexibility and choice to its customers.

One of the highlights of EMC’s Mega-Launch is the introduction of VMAX, the next gen flagship storage line, and the VNX Unified Storage family, which converges the best elements of EMC’s venerable CLARiiON and Celerra product lines into one unified platform offering both block and file storage.  EMC also announced the industry’s fastest deduplication storage systems from its Data Domain acquisition for backup and archive challenges.

Taking the Guesswork out of Deploying Virtual Desktops: Cisco + VMware Validated Designs for View 4.5

So, like many IT organizations you may have already made the decision to deploy virtual desktops – you’re ready to move from a small pilot to full production.  But a lot of questions (and possibly some guesswork) stand in the way – what does the end state architecture need to look like?  How do you get there?  How are you going to make sure that you can move quickly and seamlessly from proof of concept to scalable production? Accounting for sufficient server capacity, network bandwidth and performance, storage IOPS, and especially quality of experience at the end-user level – there are a lot of factors to contend with.  And how do you predict user behavior in a production environment, including the load they’ll collectively place on your infrastructure when they log into their brand-new virtual desktops on Monday morning?
